Jeopardy! fans criticized the show for including what they thought was an especially easy Final Jeopardy! question. During the May 28 Jeopardy! episode, returning champion Tyler Griffith, a criminal forensic scientist originally from Sturgis, Michigan competed against Thomas Sweeney, a survey technician from Morrow, Ohio, and Alice Welch, an epidemiologist from Queens, New York. After Final Jeopardy!, Thomas was crowned the champion, besting Tyler, but Alice went viral for her story about how meeting John Stamos as a teenager led to her becoming a pharmacist.

Jeopardy! fans criticized the show for including what they thought was an especially easy Final Jeopardy! question.

In a Jeopardy! Reddit thread, fans lamented the especially easy Final Jeopardy! (FJ) clue. The category was "Cars & The Movies," and the question read, "A fake speedometer was used in this make of car from a 1980s movie, since the actual car's speedometer didn't go high enough." The answer was, "What is a DeLorean?," because the question referred to the car from the film, Back to the Future, which only went 85 mph instead of 88 mph like in the film. All three contestants answered the question correctly.

After the episode aired, one Jeopardy! fan wrote, "FJ was way too easy," while another agreed, "Seriously. That was a $100 or $200 question." Another viewer said, "Really absurd, too easy even for Celebrity," while another stated, "Yeah, it was an insta-get even before finishing reading the Q."

However, a few Jeopardy! fans weren't bothered by the clue. One wrote, "Eh, I'm okay with an easyish FJ to balance out that brutal [Double Jeopardy!] DJ board." Another itted that they didn't know the answer to the question at first, saying, "Eh, my mind first went to the Dodge Charger from Dukes of Hazzard (yes, I know wrong time period) before coming up with the DeLorean."

Sometimes The Final Jeopardy! Question Is Less Challenging For Some People

While many Jeopardy! fans thought that the Final Jeopardy! clue about the DeLorian from Back to the Future was a breeze, all this really means is that it was easy for them. There must've been other people, besides the Reddit above, who didn't know the answer to the question, or who didn't think of DeLorean in the 30 seconds allotted for Final Jeopardy!. While this question did seem particularly less challenging than others, there was a chance that the contestants might not get the answer right. The question also made up for some particularly challenging ones throughout the game.

Pop Culture Questions Are Just As Important As Other Types

Although pop culture Final Jeopardy! clues are often viewed as easier than others, they're still part of the game, and those categories should be just as respected as more highbrow ones. I enjoy seeing a Final Jeopardy! question about film now and then because I believe that knowing about pop culture is part of being a well-rounded person. I also know that there are many Jeopardy! viewers who are experts in the more intellectual categories, but who might not know a lot about popular movies, so those questions would be challenging for them.

I enjoyed this Final Jeopardy! question because Back to the Future is such a classic movie, but there are other films about cars, such as Carrie, that could've thrown people off. I was happy to see that all three contestants got the answer right. While triple stumpers make the game exciting because of how challenging they are, it's disheartening to see none of the players answer the Final Jeopardy! question correctly. This so-called easy question ended the game on a bright note, with everyone getting it right.
