James Holzhauer once again embraced his villain image when he roasted eliminated Jeopardy! Masters season 3 contestant Matt Amodio on social media. Jeopardy! Masters season 3 welcomed back nine champions, including Victoria Groce, Yogesh Raut, Juveria Zaheer, Isaac Hirsch, Matt Amodio, Roger Craig, Brad Rutter, Adriana Harmeyer, and Neilesh Vinjamuri. Matt and Roger were eliminated during the semi-finals, while Victoria, Yogesh, Juveria, and Isaac advanced. Brad, Adriana, and Neilesh had gone home earlier in the season. James declined his invitation to the tournament.

James Holzhauer once again embraced his villain image when he roasted eliminated Jeopardy! Masters season 3 contestant Matt Amodio on social media.

In an X post, James roasted Matt for being eliminated from Jeopardy! Masters season 3 during the semi-finals. He shared a picture of him with a speech bubble that made it appear that Matt was saying, "The haters said I couldn't do it. And they were correct. Honestly great call from the haters."

Matt responded by giving James a taste of his own medicine. He wrote, "How can someone who has studied so much poker think paying Elon ~$4 per tweet in 2025 is a good bet [checkmark emoji]." Matt was referring to the fact that James has a blue checkmark next to his name on X, which means that he paid for it. Elon Musk owns X.

What James Holzhauer’s Villain Persona Means For Jeopardy!

James Is Fun To Watch

As a self-proclaimed game show villain who's appeared on both Jeopardy! and The Chase, James always makes things entertaining by leaning into his bad guy persona. He previously roasted Brad, who was eliminated shockingly early during Jeopardy! Masters season 3, and now he's moved on to Matt. Matt's funny quip back at James proves that, while there's definitely some friendly competition between the two, it's all in good fun. Jeopardy! can be serious at times, but James makes people laugh by being the ultimate antagonist.

Our Take On James Holzhauer Roasting Matt Amodio

James Must Return To A Jeopardy! Tournament Soon

While I love to see James playfully ribbing the Jeopardy! Masters contestants, I can't help but think that any of their retorts could be that he didn't even play in season 3. No matter how surprisingly early Brad or Matt left the competition, they still made it farther than James, who chose to sit this one out. Therefore, in order to truly prove himself, James will one day have to return to a Jeopardy! tournament and take on his rivals once again.

During his 32-game streak, James changed the way Jeopardy! is played with his daring true Daily Double wagers, which is why he holds all of the Top 10 Jeopardy! spots for single-day winnings, including the record at $131,127. He definitely has bragging rights because of that, but Matt won more regular games than him with 38. I love seeing the rivalry between them because it encourages them to reach for new heights as they try to outdo each other.

James bested Matt in Jeopardy! Masters season 1, which he won, and season 2, in which he placed third behind winner Victoria and runner-up Yogesh. Matt placed third in season 1 and sixth in season 2. Jeopardy! Masters season 4 needs a rematch between Matt and James.

The Jeopardy! Masters season 3 finale airs Wednesdays, June 4 at 8 p.m. EDT on ABC.
