The Incredible Burt Wonderstone (2013)

The Incredible Burt Wonderstone cast Carell as the title character, a vain magician who has a falling out with his partner Anton Marvelton (Steve Buscemi). Burt has to try to revive his career while facing competition from Jim Carrey as the David Blaine-esque Steve Gray, who performs more extreme forms of magic.

The Incredible Burt Wonderstone has some good belly laughs - with Carrey and Alan Arkin being the highlights - but the movie itself never quite clicks. This partly due to the fact it never settles on what it wants to be, veering from lighthearted comedy to a much darker tone with little grace.

Bruce Almighty (2003)

Bruce Almighty is a big-budget comedy that reunited Carrey with his Ace Ventura director Tom Shadyac. The story follows a reporter who whines about his life to God (Morgan Freeman) - who uncharacteristically responds. God then gives Bruce his powers for a week to see how he'll cope with the responsibility.

Bruce Almighty was also an early movie role for Steve Carell as one of Bruce's rivals, and really made an impression with a scene where he - due to being controlled by Bruce - has a very public meltdown. Bruce Almighty has some solid gags but it also hasn't aged well, and once it moves from being inventive with its wacky premise into sappy moralizing, it becomes much less entertaining. Shadyac and Carell later gave the latter's character a spinoff with Evan Almighty, which proved much less successful.

Horton Hears A Who! (2008)

Carrey returned to The Grinch with Horton Hears A Who! This animated adventure cast Carrey as Horton, a tuskless elephant that can hear the tiny inhabitants of Whoville, who live on a speck of dust. Horton has to protect Whoville from harm while Carell voices the town's mayor.

Horton Hears A Who! is a charming and warm family comedy, with both Jim Carrey and Steve Carell perfectly suited to their respective roles. It also benefits from being one of the more faithful adaptations of Dr. Seuss' work.
