Warning: Spoilers for John Wick: Chapter 4 Below!
Scott Adkins finally s the John Wick franchise in John Wick: Chapter 4, and it was well worth the wait. In John Wick: Chapter 4, John (Keanu Reeves) fights for his freedom from the High Table, but faces enemies at every possible turn. One of them is the German crime boss Killa (Adkins), who proves to be a significant obstacle in John’s quest for freedom.
As one of numerous martial arts stars in John Wick franchise, Scott Adkins is well-known to action fans and martial arts lovers around the world for his work in straight-to-video martial arts films like the Undisputed franchise and the Accident Man movies. Adkins and John Wick director Chad Stahelski had also previously had discussions about the former appearing in both John Wick: Chapter 2 and John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, but were not able to make them happen. With Adkins finally appearing in John Wick: Chapter 4, it pays off fantastically.
Scott Adkins Is One Of John Wick 4's Most Memorable Characters
Adkins is a scene-chewing delight as Killa, sneering veiled threats at John while pulling him into a literal card game for his life alongside Caine (Donnie Yen) and the Tracker (Shamier Anderson). Adkins also radically transforms under a fat suit, facial prosthetics, and a German accent to become a character like he has never embodied before. Naturally, Adkins also gets in on the John Wick action as well, with John Wick and Killa facing off in the latter's nightclub.
Well-known for his astonishing flips and kicks, Adkins brings his signature agility and speed to Killa’s martial arts fight with John Wick. Scott Adkins' great skill with accents also pays off well with his Killa's German accent making him a wholly distinct Adkins character. Additionally, his death at John Wick’s hands is one of the most standout villain demises in the movie and of the whole John Wick franchise. As an off-shoot of that, Adkins’s appearance in John Wick: Chapter 4 has had another effect.
John Wick 4 Has Brought More Mainstream Attention To Scott Adkins
While Scott Adkins has steadily built up a large following among action fans, especially from his portrayal of Yuri Boyka in the Undisputed series, his appearances in theatrical action movies have been relatively few. ing such an acclaimed action franchise as the John Wick series has noticeably exposed Adkins to wider audience than ever before, with Adkins making the rounds in televised and trade interviews ahead of John Wick: Chapter 4’s release. Combined with what a standout character Killa is, John Wick: Chapter 4 is already creating a new legion of Scott Adkins fans.
Adkins is not alone in that regard, with his fellow straight-to-video martial arts sensation Marko Zaror is also seeing a similar mainstream boost through his role as Chidi in John Wick: Chapter 4, much to the delight of action fans around the world. It may have taken four movies for Scott Adkins to finally appear in the John Wick franchise (and just before the death of John Wick in the film, no less), but John Wick: Chapter 4 delivers beautifully on what Scott Adkins can do. Hopefully, Killa being such a highlight in John Wick: Chapter 4 can also finally help get Undisputed 5 off the ground, as well.
