Colossus and Wolverine's Signature Tag-Team Move Just Got a Major Upgrade

Marvel's Fastball Special first appeared in X-Men (1963) #100—by Chris Claremont, Dave Cockrum, and Bonnie Wilford—in which Wolverine tells Colossus to throw him "just like we did it in the Danger Room" at a robotic doppelgänger of Angel. Since then, this move, in which Colossus throws Wolverine at their target, has become not only the pair's signature tag-team technique but also a Marvel icon. It's often used to spice up particularly dramatic brawls or unlikely team-ups. Even rival publisher DC has gotten in on the action, replacing Wolverine with of the Bat-Family.

The version that appears in Amazing Spider-Man #70 elevates the Fastball Special beyond its normal scope due to the nature of the Juggernaut's powers. As the earthly avatar of the outer deity Cyttorak, the Juggernaut possesses near-limitless physical strength; once in motion, the Juggernaut cannot be stopped save by his own will. This defining trait makes the Juggernaut the perfect candidate for either side of the Fastball Special, giving an incredible boost to whomever he throws, or transforming the Juggernaut into an unstoppable missile—provided someone with sufficient strength can be found to launch him.
