Season two of Jujutsu Kaisen was plagued with production issues as MAPPA came under scrutiny for poor work conditions, among other controversies. Yet the studio delivered a spectacular adaptation of Sukuna's fight against Mahoraga which will now be re-released with never-before-seen footage.
An announcement posted on Jujutsu Kaisen's official Japanese website revealed that season 2 episode #17 will include additional cuts and revised footage when released on Blu-ray and DVD. Moreover, this revised version of episode #17, together with episodes 18-20 will be screened in theaters across Japan for one week from March 29, 2024, to commemorate the Blu-ray and DVD release.
The revised version of episode #17 may finally fully deliver on Sukuna and Mahoraga's epic showdown at Shibuya with the promised additional footage possibly taking the episode to a whole new level. The re-release has been hyped even by the director who worked on the episode, suggesting it may indeed be completely different from the version that originally aired in 2023.

Jujutsu Kaisen Re-Releases Its Biggest Season 2 Episode With Additional Cuts
Sukuna's fight against Mahoraga in episode #17 was easily the highlight of the entire Shibuya Arc and managed to blow fans away despite the troubles the studio was going through at the time. Albeit a bit rushed, the fight was still brilliantly nimated and fans were shocked when Roccia Nobili, an animator who'd worked on the episode, revealed that the version that aired had been only 30% of the whole vision.
Fortunately, fans may finally get to witness Sukuna vs. Mahoraga in all its intended glory with the Blu-ray and DVD release. The release has also received a comment from Itsuki Tsuchigami, one of the directors of episode #17, who in their tweet revealed the episode will be a step above what fans might expect, and even urged fans to buy a video player to watch the episode.
Jujutsu Kaisen Finally Does Sukuna vs. Mahoraga Justice
Overall, considering the troubles the series went through, fans did not have high hopes that Sukuna's fight against Mahoraga would ever be completed. As such, it is certainly a pleasant surprise to hear the studio decided to perfect it for the Blu-ray and DVD release and finally do the fight justice. In fact, considering the ever-growing popularity of streaming services, this decision could instead drive sales toward the Blu-ray release for a change. Either way, Jujutsu Kaisen's biggest and most controversial fight is ready to cause waves once again.
