Kaiju No. 8 is a sci-fi battle action anime based on the hit Shōnen Jump manga by Naoya Matsumoto, set in a Japan that is constantly under siege by monsters known as kaiju. In this world, elite military units are tasked with protecting humanity and neutralizing every monstrous threat before it can wreak havoc on the population; however, instead of zeroing in on one of these elite fighters, the narrative centers on Kafka Hibino, a man who works to dispose of the gruesome corpses of the kaiju.
Kafka is a middle-aged member of the cleanup crew who once dreamed of ing the Defense Force. However, after years of unsuccessful attempts, it seemed unlikely that he would ever succeed—until fate offered him an unexpected second chance. Following a strange turn of events, Kafka gains the ability to transform into a kaiju himself.
