Summary

  • Finally, after years of waiting, the Kingdom Hearts games are coming to Steam on June 13.
  • Fans can likely look forward to three different bundles on Steam, including Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 + 2.5 ReMIX, 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue, and III + Re Mind.
  • The release on Steam also sparks speculation about the highly-anticipated Kingdom Hearts 4, rumored to arrive in 2025.

The PC version of Kingdom Hearts has been locked away on the Epic Games Store ever since 2021 but fortunately, those patient Steam s who held out hope that the series would one day land on Valve's storefront have been rewarded. A bizarre mash-up of Disney and Final Fantasy, the adventures of Sora, Donald, and Goofy have leaped from platform to platform ever since the original game debuted on the PlayStation 2 in 2002. It took nearly two decades for the trilogy, and the various spinoffs, to drop on PC but even then, Epic's exclusivity was a dealbreaker for many.

Fortunately, that's all about to change as PC Gamer reports that the entire Kingdom Hearts collection, specifically every game in the Dark Seeker Saga, will launch on Steam on June 13. Basing the launches on the versions currently available on the EGS, the trilogy will be split across three different bundles, namely Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 + 2.5 ReMIX, Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue, and Kingdom Hearts III + Re Mind. Why Square Enix has opted to bring the games to Steam now remains a mystery but players definitely aren't complaining.

There are still a few more unknown variables about Kingdom Hearts' Steam launch, the most prominent of which is whether or not the rhythm-based game Melody of Memory, a loving tribute to the franchise's excellent soundtrack, will also make the transition over from the Epic Game Store. Additionally, Steam Deck owners are wondering how well the games will run on the handheld platform given that the Nintendo Switch version was only available as a cloud-streamed port due to concerns that the console couldn't handle the games. More answers will likely be provided in the near future.

The news of Kingdom Hearts leaving the Epic Games Store comes just weeks after rumors claimed that a faithfully recreated Japanese district.

Kingdom Hearts may have earned a reputation for its Disney characters fighting alongside Final Fantasy heroes doesn't seem like a concept that should work but in practice, it's much more compelling than one might think. If there was ever a time to indulge in Sora's crusade against the Heartless and Organization XIII, June 13 would be it.
