The King's Man 2 is on the way, and director Matthew Vaughn has teased that the next Kingsman prequel movie will take place during the rise of Hitler and Nazi . Based upon Mark Millar's graphic novel The Secret Service, Kingsman: The Secret Service first arrived in 2015, with the spy action comedy becoming a major hit. The movie's success would lead to its 2017 sequel Kingsman: The Golden Circle, while 2021's The King's Man serves as a prequel for the franchise.

The King's Man follows Orlando Oxford (Ralph Fiennes), who uncovers a plot against England during the onset of WWI. His mission puts him in conflict with the sinister Rasputin (Rhys Ifans), and sets up the Kingsman organization that audiences know and love. The King’s Man 2 was teased in the mid-credits scene of the first movie, although updates on it were quiet for several years. That was until 2023, when Matthew Vaughn confirmed that The King’s Man sequel — titled The King’s Man 2: The Traitor King — was officially in development.

20th Century Studios Offers A Grave Update

The original Kingsman agency raises a toast in a green board room in The King's Man

Though news surrounding the follow-up has been scant, the latest comes as a negative update from 20th Century Studios regarding The King's Man 2. Steve Asbell, President of 20th Century Studios, revealed extensive plans for the company's future with regard to sequels. Amid news of more Alien, Predator, Avatar, and Agatha Christie movies, Asbell had little to say about Matthew Vaughn's Kingsman franchise. In fact, Asbell kept his answer short and sweet when saying "There's no plans on doing them anytime soon."

This comes as a bit of a shock considering recent updates from Vaughn regarding both The King's Man 2 and Kingsman: The Blue Blood, but shouldn't be too surprising with the director's recent box office issues in mind. The King's Man was a bit of a flop that grossed only $125 million (via Vaughn's Argylle was an unmitigated disaster. Though Vaughn has proven to be a hit-maker in the past, a few big flops can make any studio hesitant to move forward with more expensive gambles.

Though unconfirmed, some sources list the budget of The King's Man as $100 million, meaning it cost around $200 million when factoring in marketing and advertising.

Though he didn't say that the movies were outright canceled, the sequels seem less likely with each ing year.

Kingsman: The Blue Blood is also in development from Matthew Vaughn.

The King's Man 2 could easily focus on the first missions as the Kingsman agency, and it seems that their first foe is already known.

The King's Man concludes with Oxford and his allies meeting in the Kingsman tailoring business, where they discuss the need for an independent agency to combat potential threats to the U.K. This is where the Kingsman agency is officially formed, with each member taking on a code name derived from the knights of the round table. This sets up the Kingsman organization, as was seen in the first two Kingsman films. From there, The King's Man 2 could easily focus on the first missions as the Kingsman agency, and it seems that their first foe is already known.

Matthew Vaughn has confirmed that The King’s Man 2: The Traitor King will follow the Kingsman agency during Hitler’s rise to power. The title The Traitor King already gives some hints at where the plot could go, especially with Tom Hollander’s King George V, a founding member of Kingsman, taking up the position of Percival. The only guarantee is that Matthew Goode’s nefarious villain Shepherd, AKA Morton, will have a hand in it when The King’s Man 2 release date arrives.
