NBC has renewed all six of its Chicago shows. The Law & Order franchise has been a staple for the network since the flagship show premiered over 30 years ago. It's received increased interest from viewers in recent years thanks to the return of Christopher Meloni's beloved SVU character Elliot Stabler, now starring in Organized Crime. While the Chicago franchise didn't kick off with Chicago Fire until 2012, in the past decade, it's likewise become a ratings juggernaut for NBC.

It's no surprise then that the network has opted to renew all six of its series produced by Dick Wolf for the 2023-24 TV season. This means all the following shows will return: Law & Order, Law & Order: SVU, Law & Order: Organized Crime, Chicago Fire, Chicago Med, and Chicago P.D. Wolf celebrated the massive renewal in a statement released by the network:

I’m pleased to continue my four-decade relationship with Universal Television and NBC. All six shows being picked up again is the ultimate accolade to our incredible casts, producers and writers. I'd also like to thank our loyal fans who have kept our NBC shows on the air for what will be a cumulative 84 seasons.

Law & Order & Chicago Show Renewals Prove The Power Of Dick Wolf

To say Wolf has had a giant impact on NBC and its programming is an understatement. For the last several decades, he's played a major role in shaping the network's drama slate. With this renewal news, it's clear that isn't changing anytime soon. It's smart of NBC to stay in business with the super producer as he and his collaborators clearly have a keen sense of what viewers want to see.

It makes sense that NBC has opted to renew all six shows rather than just some. The franchise crossovers have proven to be a massive draw, encouraging those who may watch only a couple of the shows to check out others as well. Meloni's return to the Law & Order franchise has been a particularly strong success, as it's allowed the network to revisit Stabler's dynamic with Mariska Hargitay's Olivia Benson, reigniting a ionate viewer base who wants to see the two characters together.

While NBC's renewal announcement doesn't offer details about what storylines audiences can anticipate next season, that's to be expected at this point. The current season is still underway, with many finales set to air next month. After that, the network's 2023-24 plans for each Law & Order and Chicago show will likely become clearer.
