Summary
- Aang starts a family with Katara to keep Airbender traditions alive, despite his own lack of parental figures.
- Bumi, Kya, and Tenzin, Aang's children, each have their own unique personalities and relationship with their father.
- Tenzin ensures the legacy of Airbenders with his children, especially Jinora who becomes an Airbending Master at a young age.
As an Air Nomad, The Legend of Korra demonstrates. The original animated series sees Aang as only 12 years old and focuses on training to become the best Avatar he can. Despite that, it's clear from the beginning that he has feelings for Katara.
Aang starts a family with Katara after they grow up and things settle down a bit, producing three beautiful children in quick succession: Bumi, Kya and Tenzin. Aang doesn't want to be the last Airbender, and sees having a family as a way to keep the ways of his people alive. Kya and Bumi clearly have no interest in propagating the Aang-Katara bloodline, but Tenzin goes on to have four kids all by himself— Jinora, Ikki, Meelo, and Rohan. There are seven living descendants of Avatar Aang.

Avatar: What Happened To Aang After The Last Airbender Ended
Avatar: The Last Airbender's series finale saw Aang defeat Fire Lord Ozai and and the Hundred Year War. Here's what happened to him next.
Bumi
The Unpredictable Firstborn
Katara and Aang's eldest child, Bumi, is referred to as a "bit of a wild man," by General Iroh. As such, it is not surprising that he was named in honor of King Bumi of Omashu, a man whose enthusiasm was as extreme as his idiosyncrasies were countless. Bumi's mother found him rather difficult to handle when he was a kid, mostly because he took being a nonbender rather seriously and overcompensated in different ways.
He is prone to weaving intricate tales of heroism, although they seem almost completely nonsensical— especially for Tenzin, who doesn't like his big brother's irresponsible behavior. Bumi, however, has a zest for life that makes him seem not quite as serious as the other two children of Avatar Aang and Katara. When he develops airbending abilities later in life, he has fun with them at first, not unlike his father before him.
Kya
The Strong and Independent Waterbender
Kya is a unique character in of her romantic preference.
Kya is a unique character in of her romantic preference, though it is never treated as a taboo— she come out of the closet when she is younger, and both Aang and Katara unsurprisingly offer her their blessings and unconditional love. She offers her own perspective to Avatar Korra when Korra begins a relationship with Asami, born from her experiences with her family and society.
Kya's Waterbending skills are sharply honed, having received considerable training under her powerful mother. Kya, as the middle child of Aang and Katara, exhibits two general personality traits. For the most part, she is a rational individual, but there are times when she just lets go and has fun— for example, the time the siblings go looking for Ikki. Sadly, like her older brother Bumi, she believes that her father didn't give her enough attention when they were growing up, instead choosing to spend most of his time giving Tenzin Airbender training.
Tenzin
Upholding Aang's Legacy
Tenzin is quite spry for his age, often taking part in combat alongside Korra and his own children without restraint or fear. The youngest of Katara and Aang's offspring, Tenzin was also their only Airbending child— though Korra's portal magic subsequently made him just a little less special as it allowed Bumi to develop Airbending abilities later in life.
Tenzin tries his best to live according to the principles of Air Nomad tradition, but his true nature is sometimes repressed when he attempts to be as serious as he believes his deceased father would want him to be. Thankfully, after "meeting" Aang in the Fog of Lost Souls, he understands that he is his own person and not an extension of the Avatar. From this point onward, Tenzin allows himself to relax and enjoy life a little more.

Avatar: What Bending Powers Aang & Katara's Children Have
Aang and Katara had three children after Avatar: The Last Airbender, but not all of them had bending powers (at least, not at first).
Jinora
The Wise and Spiritual Heir
Like Aang before him, Tenzin feels the pressure of making sure there is a new generation of Airbenders. While Aang and Katara only have (at first) one Airbending child, Tenzin has more, starting when his wife Pema gives birth to their first daughter. Their firstborn, Jinora, is a gentle soul, depicting maturity far beyond her years and sometimes even more than her father. She seems to have inherited her paternal grandfather's instinct for Airbending, although she takes it much further than Aang has ever done.
Jinora is permitted to become an Airbending Master at the delicate age of eleven, making her the youngest person to reach this level in over ten thousand years.
Not only does she save Korra and the world by restoring Raava's spirit and transferring it to the human world, but she also generates a cooperative Airbending strategy in order to take Zaheer down. For these accomplishments, Jinora is permitted to become an Airbending Master at the delicate age of eleven, making her the youngest person to reach this level in over ten thousand years.
Ikki
The Energetic and Free Spirit
Although Ikki's narrative is not as well-developed as those of her siblings, she is an inquisitive child with an ardent fervor for anything and everything. The second child of Tenzin and Pema, she is usually direct in her queries, regardless of how sensitive they might be to the people she's lobbing them at. Ikki hasn't developed much of a filter at her age.
For example, Ikki is the one who lets slip to Asami that Korra has a crush on Mako, a horrifyingly embarrassing situation for the Avatar. She is the closest in nature to her father, given that she gets upset easily when her siblings make fun of her. This helps them forge a stronger parent-child bond, however, like the time they spend a lovely day playing with a bunch of Sky Bison calves together.

Avatar: The Last Airbender Timeline Explained (Including Legend of Korra)
Avatar: The Last Airbender was the start of a new universe. Here's a complete timeline of what happened before Avatar and through Legend of Korra.
Meelo
The Playful and Resourceful Airbender
Meelo is a literal tornado— stretching the limits of what it means to be a hyperactive child. He is the youngest child and only son of Tenzin, at least until his baby brother is born in Legend of Korra's Book One: Air. Meelo is eerily similar to Aang, especially in his outrageous shenanigans and sense of adventure.
If his grandpa were alive, they would have been as thick as thieves, and most definitely gone Elephant Koi surfing and Hog Monkey riding together. Unlike Aang, though, Meelo can never sit still, which means meditation isn't his strong suit, and is best known for his uncontrollable gas. In spite of his extremely young age, he even displays a small amount of romantic affection towards Korra, although her attentions are directed towards boys and girls closer to her own age.
Rohan
The Youngest Air Nomad
Being a baby, Rohan's Airbender status remains unknown at the end of The Legend of Korra— although if history is any lesson, he will turn out to be a fighter like the rest of his family. Katara warmly tells her son and daughter-in-law that their newborn is most likely going to be an Airbender, although Pema, as a nonbender, desperately hopes to have at least one nonbender child so that she can have something in common with him.
Rohan has a cordial relationship with his Aunt Kya, though it's sometimes tainted by his tendency to lose his lunch all over her. He is last seen at the wedding of Zhu Li and Varrick, where he almost succeeds in escaping his mother's clutches— but alas, he is caught and given a thorough washing.
The Legend of Korra is available to stream on Netflix and Amazon Prime.
If the characters of The Legend of Korra are seen in more of the Avatar projects, Rohan's bending status will likely be revealed then.
