The investigation into Mobius M. Mobius (Owen Wilson) said, there’s no shortage of them in the Sacred Timeline, but it would appear that a large number of them appeared within a specific time period in the future.

Tom Hiddleston’s character in the Disney+ series proved his usefulness to Mobius when he went through the Time Variance Authority’s files and reached a major discovery pertaining to the activities of the show’s evil Loki variant. Thanks to Loki’s research, it was learned that apocalypses are the perfect hiding spots for the villain. To prove Loki’s theory, they visited Pompeii, which was famously destroyed by a volcano in 79 A.D. There, it was confirmed that actions committed in places like that by a time-traveler don’t actually matter since they’re about to be destroyed anyway. It was for this reason that Lady Loki was able to avoid causing any time-related disturbances, and stay out of reach of the TVA.

To track down the time criminal, Loki and Mobius began looking into apocalypses (both big and small) that she could hide in. Among those they read about were ones that happened in 2048, 2049, 2050, and 2051, with some years playing host to multiple cataclysmic events. This may create the impression that the MCU has a bleak future ahead of it, but it’s important to keep in mind that these particular apocalypses were singled out because the two characters narrowed down Lady Loki’s place in the timeline to these years. That, in turn, was because it was during this period that the Kablooie candy bar originated from. So it could be that, in reality, the future isn’t really any worse than the past.

Alternatively, it could be that it truly was a sign of things to come, but what could that be, exactly? Mobius said they were all natural disasters, which means they don’t have anything to do with nuclear warfare, or anything similar. Instead, they were events that involved tsunamis, famine, volcanoes, and more. As for what special meaning so many of these catastrophes happening that close together could have, it’s possible that it has something to do with the state of the Earth itself, or a lack of protection, since the Avengers may not be around at this time.

It may be that an incident (or a string of incidents) in the near future will speed up the deterioration of various regions and biomes on the planet that force it further downhill. The climate could continue to be impacted in a negative way either by the actions of humanity or something else entirely. Regardless, it’s at least possible that the MCU’s Earth is headed for a rough time in the next few decades, with its environment suffering a number of heavy blows.
