Rings Of Power Season 2 Images Introduce New LOTR Character With Potential Tolkien Canon Connection

Summary

  • Galadriel will wear her Ring in The Rings of Power season 2, teases executive producer Lindsey Weber.
  • Weber teases how the Rings change the characters who wear them, hinting at how a new side of Galadriel will be revealed in the process.
  • Season 2 will likely feature more Rings being made, helping Sauron rise to power.

The Rings of Power season 2 will continue the story of the forging of the titular Rings, three of which have already been made by the end of season 1. These Rings are destined to be worn by important Elves, one of whom is Galadriel.

Speaking with Empire Magazine, Weber teased what it will be like for Galadriel to finally wear her Ring in The Rings of Power season 2. The executive producer explained how the Rings change the people who wear them, teasing a new side of the character who is also still grappling with her mistakes in trusting Halbrand during season 1. Check out what Weber had to say below:

It's a very special moment when Galadriel (Morfydd Clark) finally gets to put on her ring, Nenya. Something we hope we've captured in cinematic fashion at the opening of Season 2.

This season we get to play with some of the storytelling around what the rings do and, I think most importantly, what they do to our characters when they're wearing them. They change people in ways that might be good, and ways that might be less good. [We see] a real different side to Galadriel.

She's humbled. She's had to own up to her mistakes. She's had to accept that her intuition maybe isn't always perfect. She's had to face the question of whether she's wrong and decide which way to go to set right what she's had a hand in unleashing on Middle-earth.

How Will Galadriel Change In The Rings Of Power Season 2?

The Rings of Power season 1 ended with Galadriel realizing that Halbrand was actually Sauron in disguise, having helped the Elves forge the Rings for an unknown purpose. The final episode makes it seem like she is going to be keeping his origins a secret, likely because the mithril in the rings truly can help the Elves survive. However, with her confirmed to be wearing a Ring in season 2, she’s likely to undergo changes, likely having to do with falling under Sauron’s control.

Given what Weber has said about Galadriel’s character story, the opening of her putting on Nenya means her mindset will be a major focus over the course of season 2. The alterations she goes through will likely be influenced by her guilt at being tricked by Sauron, something that may be enhanced due to the power the Dark Lord has over the Rings. He may even use it as a tool to get her to him in Mordor, something she’d refused to go through with in season 1.

Another key factor that may play into her story is Sauron’s return, disguised as the Elven figure Annatar. His coming back is what results in the rest of the Rings being forged, something that could also play into how much Nenya alters her personality and motivations in season 2. Since The Rings of Power cast will also need to expand to showcase everyone who receives a Ring, Galadriel’s story will only be one major part of a much larger disaster waiting to happen.
