In a recent interview, Love Is Blind creator Chris Coelen gave fans some behind-the-scenes secrets and discussed his openness to including sexually fluid contestants in the future. The first season of the show was a huge success, with the premise captivating fans. They watched as some couples found love, while others found themselves in relationships that crashed and burned. Jessica Batten and Mark Cuevas's relationship drew fans in, as the show painted Jessica as the villain who broke Mark's heart. It was clear she wanted to end up with Barnett, but he was with Amber Pike, so she settled for Mark. In the end, she left Mark heartbroken at the altar. She claimed the biggest issue was their 10 year age difference.
Another relationship that broke down in a huge way was between Carlton Morton and Diamond Jack who broke up before even getting to the alter. Carlton revealed to Diamond he was bisexual shortly after the pair started their Mexican vacation. Diamond had issues with the fact that Carlton withheld that information from her while they were in the pods, and that he won her over with lies. The conversation quickly exploded into an argument in which Diamond threw her engagement ring off and both were hurling insults at each other. At one point Diamond threw a drink into Carlton's face and walked away reciting Beyoncé lyrics while Carlton continued to insult her.
During a recent interview, the show's creator Chris revealed he would be open to including sexually fluid contestants in the future. As reported by a more diverse cast, like Carlton, in the coming seasons. When asked about potential diversity in casting, Christ explained he ires the different stories people of different backgrounds can tell and he aspires to be able to tell all those stories. He also opened up about the possible challenges which could arise from having gender-fluid contestants featured. One of the challenges revolves around how they would separate the contestants. In the show's current structure the straight cisgender contestants are separated by gender in different living areas in order to keep their appearance hidden from the other gender. If everyone is fair game to everyone, it will be a lot harder to keep their appearances hidden. Despite these additional challenges, it is something the creators are thinking about.
Chris also discussed how they decide which Love Is Blind couples to follow once they get engaged. He revealed that in seasons 1 and 2 there were eight couples that got engaged but producers only chose to follow six for the show. When asked how they choose which couples to follow he explained they just guess which ones are going to be most exciting. He brought up last season's couple Kelly Chase and Kenny Barnes as an example. Chris claimed they thought for sure the couple was going to make it and have a predictable boring ending, only for Kelly to leave him at the altar. They go over the couples who ended up engaged and try to decide which ones truly have the strongest connections and who they think will come across as the most authentic to fans and continue to follow their journeys.
The season finale of Love Is Blind is set to air on Friday, and everyone is wondering if Nick Thompson will say yes to Daniell Ruhl, or leave her at the altar. It will be interesting to see which couples actually get married this season and how many relationships fall apart.
