The thriller Love Me Dead turns a Disney Channel star into a femme fatale in new key art. The movie, written and directed by Josh Webber (Never Heard, Dear Frank) tells the story of Isaac, a reclusive mortician, and a waitress named Cassi who become unlikely companions on a mind-bending path of revenge. Love Me Dead stars Breaking Bad regular RJ Mitte as Isaac and Liv and Maddie star and pop singer and songwriter Dove Cameron as Cassi.

ScreenRant is excited to debut the key art from Love Me Dead, which suggests dark intentions from Dove Cameron’s Cassi. The poster also shows RJ Mitte’s Isaac, though Cassi’s pose may make you question if he’ll survive the film. Check out the key art below, followed by some stills from the film. Love Me Dead hits theaters August 8 courtesy of GVN Releasing.

Why Love Me Dead Is An Exciting Next Step For Dove Cameron

Dove Cameron has come a long way since her Liv and Maddie days, but Love Me Dead still marks an exciting chapter in the actor and musician’s career. Cameron has been acting since the age of eight, and has consistently taken on more daring and adventurous roles. The actor has jumped from genre to genre with different projects, spending time on the Descendants franchise as Mal, and taking on a villainous role in Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., but Love Me Dead is her first psychological thriller.

The more adult nature of Love Me Dead also is, in some ways, more in line with Cameron’s musical career. While Cameron was a standout performer in Hairspray Live! and the Apple TV+ series-turned-stage musical Schmigadoon! (check out this Schmigadoon! season 2 interview with Cameron for more about her work on the show), even that material didn’t match the tone of songs like “Boyfriend” from the actor and singer’s musical catalogue. Cameron is not likely to sing much in Love Me Dead, but her performance will be gripping and mature, according to director Josh Webber:

Josh Webber: Dove Cameron delivers a captivating and unexpected performance in LOVE ME DEAD—unlike anything she’s done before. Her fans are going to love seeing her in this new light as a fearless, enigmatic femme fatale, highlighting her evolution as an actress who is willing to take risks. Working with Dove and RJ Mitte was an incredible experience, and their on-screen chemistry is absolutely electric; I can’t wait for audiences to see it on the big screen.

The reveal of Love Me Dead’s key art also coincidentally came shortly after the trailer for the canceled Powerpuff Girls live-action series was leaked. Cameron was set to play Bubbles in that show alongside Chloe Bennett and Yana Perrault. Although some negative responses to the leaked trailer have caused some to praise the fact the series was scrapped, it certainly would have been a big release for Cameron. The timing of the leak was fortunate in one sense: even as it brought attention to an unrealized moment from Cameron’s past, Love Me Dead marks an exciting step for her future.

Love Me Dead will be released in movie theaters on August 8.
