Anya Taylor-Joy sets her latest television project five years after her Emmy-nominated and Golden Globe-winning role in The Queen's Gambit. Tayor-Joy made her screen debut in the television show Endeavour in 2014, and a year later, she shot to prominence with a starring role in Robert Eggers' folk horror movie The Witch. The Apple+ Show Is Based On A New York Times Bestselling Novel

Anya Taylor-Joy looks into the camera in The Queen's Gambit.

Lucky is an drama based on Marissa Shipley's novel of the same name, and follows the story of a young woman who leaves behind a life of crime, only to find she must embrace her dark side again to escape her past. The show will be written and executive produced by co-showrunner Jonathan Tropper. Oscar winner Reese Witherspoon will also executive produce through her Hello Sunshine production banner. Per Apple, Taylor-Joy spoke of her delight at being able to work closely with Hello Sunshine, and her excitement about the project; check out her comments below:

Taylor-Joy's comments suggest the show will be a layered character study that will focus on female empowerment. Additionally, the involvement of Witherspoon in a producing role suggests Lucky will be a prestige drama with a sprawling story that blends genres and includes a rich tapestry of characters and landscapes. While not much else is known about the show, it is expected to have a 2025 release date, and hopes are high that it can be another streaming success for Apple TV+.
