Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga is the Mad Max: Fury Road prequel, focusing on the origins of Charlize Theron's Imperator Furiosa. 2015's critically acclaimed Mad Max: Fury Road was the fourth installment in George Miller's Mad Max universe, and it introduced audiences to Furiosa, the ultra-tough enforcer. Furiosa is one of Immortan Joe's war captains, but she betrays and frees his concubines, forming an alliance with Max along the way.
While Max is the title character in Mad Max: Fury Road, Furiosa is the de facto protagonist, and the movie centers around their relationship. The prequel Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga is closer to release than ever before, with production fully underway and a confirmed release date. Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga is directed by George Miller, who co-wrote and produced with Doug Mitchell. Because the movie is a prequel, Charlize Theron will not be returning to the role, with the indomitable war captain played in the Fury Road prequel by Anya Taylor Joy.

The Madness Returns In May
The Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga release date is set for May 24, 2024, though it's been delayed multiple times due to a variety of factors. Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga Cast
Anya Taylor-Joy Plays Furiosa
The cast of Mad Max: Furiosa contains several surprises, though none more than the actor playing the lead. Anya Taylor-Joy will be taking over the part of Imperator Furiosa from Charlize Theron, an interesting decision since Theron's portrayal of the character in Mad Max: Furiosa is arguably partly to thank for audience demand for the prequel. Chris Hemsworth will appear outside his usual heroic roles when he plays the dangerous Warlord Dementus, the newest villain in the Mad Max franchise's rogues gallery.
The character Immortan Joe will appear in Furiosa, but will now be played by Lachy Hulme.

Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga Story Details
What Happens In The Mad Max Prequel?
Like the rest of the films in the Mad Max franchise, the plot of Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga is rather simple, but it will shine through its strong characters and gripping action sequences. Set 15 years before the events of Mad Max: Fury Road, Furiosa will follow the younger version of the titular character as she is kidnapped from the Green Place of Many Mothers, which is lorded over by Immortan Joe.
After escaping the clutches of the vicious biker gang led by Warlord Dementus, Furiosa will have to face a series of deadly trials as she attempts to return to the Citadel, which is now being fought over by the two brutal warring factions. Little else is known about the plot, but that will likely be the backdrop for director George Miller's amazing post-apocalyptic vision.
