Sony's Madame Web Marvel Comics character.
As for the girls, they're taken under the wing of Madame Web, with their futures as Spider-Man heroes assured. Although the girls' origin stories aren't shown in the movie, Madame Web sets up Julia's Spider-Woman, Mattie's Spider-Woman and Anya's Spider-Girl characters to appear again. Ultimately, the Madame Web movie ending sets up another corner of Sony's Spider-Man Universe - this time with actual spider-people.
When Do Julia Cornwall, Mattie Franklin & Anya Corazon Get Spider-Man Powers?
It Comes Right At The End Of The Film
Perhaps the biggest surprise of Madame Web is that the movie doesn't show the origin stories of Julia Cornwall, Mattie Franklin, and Anya Corazon. Although much of the film deals with Ezekiel trying to prevent them from becoming superheroes, their time as Spider-Man-style heroes isn't shown beyond a few glimpses at the future through Ezekiel and Cassie's visions. That begs the question of when they become superheroes.

All 5 Spider-Man Hero Costumes In Madame Web Ranked
Madame Web proffered glimpses at the characters wearing their Spider-Woman and Spider-Girl costumes, though these varied in of quality.
It can be deduced that Julia, Mattie and Anya get their powers sometime between 2003, when Madame Web takes place, and 2013, based on a scene earlier in the movie. When Ezekiel enlists the help of Zosia Mamet's character, he gives her sketches of what the girls look like in his dream and she de-ages them by 5–10 years. Presumably, this means Ezekiel's vision took place around 2013, so the girls would've needed to have acquired their powers by then. Since there are no other indicators of when they get their powers, it's impossible to narrow it down more.
How Madame Web Sets Up Their Future Powers
Early in Madame Web, the movie shows that Ezekiel Sims brought the spider that gave him powers to New York City from the Amazon. It's unclear what would become of his apartment after his death, but if the spider escapes, that could be how the girls are bitten. It might also be the case that Madame Web brings the girls to Peru, where they can be bitten by the spiders in their natural habitat.
It's possible they could receive powers in some other way, but since the movie establishes a particular kind of spider that grants powers, it makes sense for that to be tied to their origin stories.
Madame Web Doesn't Reveal How The Spider-Man Heroes Get Their Suits
Although Madame Web, Spider-Woman, Spider-Woman and Spider-Girl are shown wearing their costumes in the future, how exactly they get superhero suits is never addressed, just like the girls' origin stories. It's unclear whether Mattie's spider-legs are part of her costume or one of her powers, just as it's unknown whether Julia's webs are organic or produced by a web-shooter. Madame Web doesn't explain whether she or the girls make their suits, nor when in the future they start using them.
How Madame Web Goes Blind And Becomes Paralyzed
It Happens During The Final Fight
During the final fight between Madame Web and Ezekiel Sims, Cassie is thrown into the water where she's hit with a blast from one of the explosions. It's this blast that blinds and paralyzes Cassie, as seen when Julia fishes her out of the water and the three girls revive her. When Cassie opens her eyes, they're clouded, giving a first indication of her blindness. That's later confirmed when she's in the hospital bed and her eyes are covered in bandages.
Cassie's paralyzation is confirmed in the final scene of the movie, which depicts Madame Web in a motorized wheelchair. She wears darkened glasses, which points to her blindness being permanent. Madame Web's glasses and wheelchair bring this depiction closer to Marvel Comics, though Cassie's chair doesn't appear to double as a life- system as it does in the comics.
How Madame Web Sets Up Peter Parker's Spider-Man
Like Most Sony Movies, The Connection Is Flimsy
In addition to introducing Mattie Franklin, Anya Corazon and Julia Cornwall, Madame Web lays the groundwork for Peter Parker's version of Spider-Man. Early on in the movie, Adam Scott is confirmed to be playing Ben Parker, and Emma Roberts is later introduced as a pregnant Mary Parker. One scene in Madame Web sees Cassie playing a game at Mary's baby shower where attendees guess the name of the baby. Though the baby is never revealed to be named Peter, it is established to be a boy, as confirmed at the end of the movie when Cassie is recovering.

Which Peter Parker Is In Madame Web? Sony's Fourth Spider-Man Explained
The Sony Spider-Verse just got much more complicated and finally introduced Peter Parker, but it's probably not the Spider-Man you'd expect it to be.
Although Peter Parker's name may not have been mentioned in Madame Web, since he's typically the only son of Mary and Richard Parker, it's a fair assumption that the movie confirms his birth. What's interesting is that, because Madame Web is set in 2003, it can't take place in either Tobey Maguire or Andrew Garfield's Spider-Man universes or the MCU, as the timelines wouldn't match up. Maguire's Peter was already Spider-Man in 2003, and Garfield's would've been about 6- or 7-years-old. Even Tom Holland's Spider-Man would be roughly 2-years-old in 2003.
What Universe Does Madame Web Take Place In?
Based on the timeline of Peter Parker's birth, Madame Web most likely takes place in its own universe or the same universe as Venom and Morbius. Early Morbius trailers teased that Spider-Man already existed in the universe, but that was removed from the final version of the movie. If Madame Web is in the same universe as Venom, Peter would only be 15 when the first movie takes place, if it's set in the same year it was released.
Will Sony's New Peter Parker Spider-Man Ever Return?
It's possible that Sony is playing a long game of introducing a new live-action version of Spider-Man for the SSU with an eye to have him their modern-set movies. It would be a different take on the Spider-Man story, though, since Madame Web's Peter Parker would become a superhero in a universe where other Spider-People are already active. He'd also be connected to those heroes through his Uncle Ben and may have a relationship not only with Cassie, but with Anya, Mattie and Julia as well, before he's ever bitten by a spider.
Whether that story or iteration of the character will ever come to the big screen, though, remains to be seen. Holland is still the current Spider-Man in the MCU, and it's thought that Marvel Studios won't let Sony use Peter Parker in live-action while their franchise is still active - though perhaps Sony could use a variant of Holland's Spider-Man.
Still, Madame Web's Spider-Man setup may be scrapped if the movie doesn't perform well, so the character's future remains uncertain.
Beyond that, Holland will eventually retire from the role, and Sony may have already teed up his Spider-Man replacement. Still, Madame Web's Spider-Man setup may be scrapped if the movie doesn't perform well, so the character's future remains uncertain.
How Madame Web Defeated Ezekiel Sims
He Fell From A Scaffold
At the end of Madame Web, Cassie leads the girls to a structurally unsound warehouse - the one seen earlier in the movie - full of explosive charges. There, they lure Ezekiel to trap him with the intention of escaping. Using her clairvoyance, Cassie leads Ezekiel onto a metal walkway that she knows will collapse. When it does, he falls to the ground and is crushed beneath rubble from the building and its sign.
Is Ezekiel Sims Dead?
The Madame Web ending seems to indicate Ezekiel Sims was killed by the injuries he sustained during his fall and from being crushed. That said, Spider-Man is able to survive being crushed under an entire building, with one of his most iconic scenes seeing him lift it off himself to escape and live another day. It's unclear if Ezekiel has the same durability as Spider-Man, but if he does, he could potentially have survived the Madame Web ending.
Why Ezekiel's Vision Didn't Come True
Ezekiel's motivation throughout the entirety of Madame Web is to kill the girls who would kill him in the future, but that ends up not happening. Instead, Madame Web kills Ezekiel and changes the future in the process. Cassie's ability to change a person's fate is foreshadowed earlier in the movie when she saves a pigeon from dying after it flew into her window in a vision. This establishes that Madame Web not only has the ability to see the future but change it as well.
What Madame Web's Ending Means For Sony's Spider-Man Universe
The Universe Is Tough To Decipher
Because of Madame Web's past ties to the multiverse in the Spider-Man animated series, it was thought that her movie might deal with the multiverse as well. However, Madame Web doesn't establish any multiversal powers for Cassie. Instead, Madame Web may affect future SSU movies in another way, by retconning the universe to include Spider-People. If Madame Web is set in the same universe as Venom, Morbius and Kraven the Hunter, there could already be Spider-People operating when those take place.
Unfortunately, there were no Spider-Man or Spider-People appearances in Venom: The Last Dance despite fans hoping there might be, given the film was the conclusion of the Venom trilogy. Going off the track record so far in the Sony Spider-Man Universe, there will likely be none featured in Kraven the Hunter as well. Given the introduction to Knull in Venom: The Last Dance, though, the multiverse and Madame Web could play a role in Sony's future plans for the franchise.

I Know How Sony Can Use Knull To Make Its Spider-Man Universe Better Than Ever Before (Without The MCU)
While it feels like the MCU would be necessary for a King in Black movie involving Knull, I know how Sony could get it done without Marvel Studios.
Of course, if Madame Web is set in a different universe, then nothing may come of the movie's superhero setup if Madame Web 2 or a spinoff isn't announced. Still, thanks to the multiverse, there's always a possibility Cassie or the other characters could return via another universe. However, for the most part, the Madame Web ending largely closes out Cassie's story and sets the stage for an adventure featuring one or all of the Spider-Man heroes.
Everything We Know About Madame Webb's Return To Sony's Spider-Man Universe
Knull Could Be The Connective Tissue
Despite not having anything on the horizon aside from Kraven the Hunter, Sony has stated that there are plans for future installments in their Spider-Man Universe. After being introduced in Venom: The Last Dance, Sony looks to be setting up a major arc involving Knull as he plays a role similar to Thanos in the MCU. In doing this, the studio could finally bring together their various franchises that have remained separate throughout the entirety of the Spider-Man Universe.
Doing a final team-up film where the characters from Madame Web, Kraven the Hunter, Morbius, and Venom have to take on Knull, seems like the only way that Cassie will return as a character in the universe. In fact, it feels like Sony's Spider-Man Universe is close to taking its last breath, and they will give it another try to see if there is any interest in the characters they have introduced so far outside of Venom. If not, it is very likely that Madame Web and the rest of the characters will not appear in anything again.
How The Madame Webb Ending Was Received
The Film Received Heavy Criticism All Around
In the end, Sony's attempt to have the character star in her own movie was misguided, as Madame Web is the worst reviewed film in Sony's Spider-Man Universe, sitting at a measly 11% percent on Rotten Tomatoes. To make matters worse, Madame Web is also the lowest-grossing film, making just over $100 million worldwide, $60 million under Morbius (via Box Office Mojo). There really isn't any excitement about seeing any of these characters again despite where they left off at the end of Madame Web.
With the ending essentially finishing off Cassie's journey into becoming Madame Web, it is entirely possible that the rather poor response from both fans and critics alike will lead to the character not playing any kind of role in Sony's Spider-Man Universe going forward. Prior to the movie, there really wasn't much excitement around Madame Web as a staple film in Sony's cinematic universe, and after its poor performance, there was even less.
