Matt began a new job as a corporate actions analyst.
Over the course of Married At First Sight season 9, Matt became an unrelatable villain. While his marriage to Amber Bowles seemed to start off well with the couple having good chemistry, over time Matt pulled away from Amber, spending less and less time with her. He would repeatedly spend long nights out with guy friends at bars without his wedding ring and didn't change when Amber showed him how much it bothered her. At first, Amber tried to forgive him, but a few days before Decision Day, her friend told her she'd seen Matt flirting with another woman at a bar, which became the last straw. During the reunion, it was revealed that he likely began cheating as soon as they returned from the honeymoon.
On October 30, Matt was arrested and charged with domestic vandalism by Nashville police, Matt was at a party arguing with a girlfriend he'd been dating on and off when he told her he was going to go to her house. The woman told him not to go, and to go home instead. After Matt left the party, the woman got a notification from her home security company that an enter/exist alarm had gone off. She came home the next day and noticed her door had been broken into and had significant frame damage, but none of her belongings were missing. The woman provided police with a photo of Matt taken on her doorbell security camera that showed he was there when the alarm went off. Matt was then arrested and charged.
It's unlikely that fans of Married At First Sight will have much sympathy for Matt given his treatment of Amber. The alleged crime certainly will not improve his image among fans, especially since his actions were against a former girlfriend. According to Justia, domestic vandalism in Tennessee is punished as theft. It's likely that Matt will face a class A misdemeanor theft charge since he didn't steal anything and likely didn't cause expensive damage. According to Horst Law, if found guilty of this level of theft, Matt could face a fine of up to $2,500 and up to a year in jail. If he is charged and found guilty with a more serious theft, the fine and jail time would increase significantly.
Meanwhile, Amber seems to be doing much better in 2021. This year, she bought a home, and her Instagram page shows her enjoying autumn visiting pumpkin patches, going to weddings, going on trips to the Caribbean and generally enjoying life. Since Married At First Sight, Amber is still working as a middle school teacher but also posts the occasional ad on Instagram. As long as Amber doesn't get herself arrested, which seems unlikely, she will continue to look like the one who came out on top in her and Matt's disastrous marriage.
Married At First Sight airs Wednesdays at 8 p.m. EST on Lifetime.
