A leaked image has revealed that the iconic blue shell from the Mario Kart franchise is about to crash into LEGO collections. The shell is one of the many power-ups that players can collect along the tracks as they race, and it gives players a chance at first place by knocking out the current top contender. That's because the shell specifically targets whoever is in the first place, causing them to temporarily stop and lose precious seconds from their run.
The leaked visual, shared by BlogsBrick on X, will allow Mario Kart and LEGO fans to recreate the game's least and most beloved power-up item:the dreaded blue shell. According to the leak, the blue shell, referred to as the "Spiny Shell" in the kit, will contain 234 pieces and is slated for a May 2025 release.
The Blue Shell LEGO Release Has A Catch
It's Not Available To Purchase On Its Own
The Spiny Shell LEGO kit would make an excellent addition to any Mario Kart or LEGO fan's collection, but it won't be available to buy as a standalone item, according to the leaker. Instead, fans will only be able to get the kit either as a reward for buying another set, ing a certain minimum purchase price, or through the LEGO Insiders Reward program.

Mario Kart World Nintendo Direct: Every Major Announcement & Reveal
Mario Kart World is the Nintendo Switch 2’s big launch exclusive, and a dedicated Nintendo Direct had a wealth of information about the game.
This program is exclusively available through the official LEGO store, and it awards fans with points for every purchase that correspond to the amount spent. Though the price for the set hasn't been revealed, this restriction will make it somewhat difficult for fans to get the Spiny Shell set, since it will require them to make additional purchases.
New Mario Kart Sets Arrive In Time For Mario Kart World's Release
The Blue Shell Gets An Overhaul In The Title
The newest entry in the Mario Kart franchise, Mario Kart World, was perfectly timing the use of a feather.
The blue shell was shown off several times throughout the game's promotional material, as well as in the special demo Treehouses held by Nintendo following the official Switch 2 announcement. Based on the videos currently available, it seems that the blue shell will be able to interact with its environment, making it potentially more lethal for both the first-place player and everyone around them. (At one point, the shell is shown starting a tidal wave when it hits the water.)
The LEGO set is a great celebration of the legacy of the blue shell and its return in Mario Kart World. Since the kit's release is allegedly coming soon, fans can expect to see official news shortly.
