Warning: Contains potential spoilers for Free Comic Book Day 2025: Amazing Spider-Man/Ultimate Universe #1!
Spider-Man will finally factor into its newest iteration. Before a major Ultimate event promises to shake up the multiverse this summer, Marvel is circling back to the villainous Maker’s first meeting with Miles in a new preview of the Ultimate Universe’s offering for this year’s Free Comic Book Day.
Free Comic Book Day 2025: Amazing Spider-Man/Ultimate Universe #1 features a prologue to this summer’s event centered around the Ultimate Universe aka Earth-6160. Written by Deniz Camp and Cody Ziglar with art by Jonas Scharf, the new prologue recalls a scene from Ultimate Invasion, where the Maker made Miles an offer that he quickly refused.
In new art by Scharf, the Maker appears in Miles’ bedroom in Earth-616, and hands him a note that appears to be blank. While readers have seen a version of this scene in 2023, it seems that more will finally be revealed here.
Miles Morales’ Meeting with the Maker Is Revisited for Free Comic Book Day 2025

Though this Ultimate Universe prologue seems to be a repeat of a scene from years prior with the initial meeting of Miles Morales and the Maker, it should offer a fresh perspective and reveal new details that will propel the story into the future. The previewed page recreates an important scene from Ultimate Invasion #1 by Jonathan Hickman and Bryan Hitch, a moment in which the Maker asked Miles to him in his new world. The cold and calculated villain bizarrely shows some warmth towards Miles here, considering him a brother as they both belonged to the forgotten Earth-1610.

Who Is THE MAKER? Ultimate Marvel's Evil Reed Richards, Explained
In most universes Reed Richards is one of the world's greatest heroes, but the Ultimate Universe Reed became a multiversal villain known as the Maker.
Miles rejected his offer, and that moment further established his character as a part of Earth-616 once and for all. However, since Camp and Scharf are returning to this scene, along with current Miles Morales: Spider-Man scribe Ziglar, it seems that the Maker and his reinvigorated Ultimate Universe aren’t finished with his version of Spider-Man just yet. Since Miles is known for hopping universes, perhaps he could be the first superhero from the main Marvel continuity to cross over into Earth-6160 for an adventure and meet its growing lineup of heroes and villains.
Miles Could Have a Major Role in the Potential "Ultimate Incursion" Event
Teased in Marvel’s 2025 Preview Timeslide
In Marvel’s recent Timeslide one-shot by Steve Foxe and Ivan Fiorelli, teasing the publisher’s events in 2025, the new mutant Bronze presented a list of various titles that hint at future stories coming up in Marvel Comics. On that list was “Ultimate Incursion”, which could very well be the title of the new Ultimate event that the Free Comic Book Day 2025 story will act as a prologue to. The title and the prologue’s new preview seem to indicate that Miles and other heroes could potentially find themselves in Earth-6160 during the Maker’s reign.
Even though Miles was first established in the original Ultimate Universe, he’s become a strong part of Marvel's current continuity, so it’s exciting that he’ll also show up in some way for the new Ultiamate event. However, while some were hoping for a new version of the character to show up in Earth-6160, it should be interesting to see how the main Miles will factor in, especially with Ziglar credited here as well. As Miles Morales prepares to take center stage in the new Ultimate Universe, it’s bound to be a major Free Comic Book Day for Spider-Man fans in 2025.

Created in 2000, the Ultimate Marvel imprint redesigned the entire Marvel Comics universe with a new set of origin stories and relationships. The reboot reinterpreted Marvel continuity from scratch in an attempt to simplify and update the company's 60-year history for modern audiences. With famous comic book writers such as Brian Michael Bendis, Warren Ellis, and Mark Millar at the helm, the Ultimate universe (named Earth-1610 within the Marvel multiverse) lasted 15 years and provided plenty of inspiration for the MCU.
