Warning! Spoilers for Avengers #54 by Marvel Comics

The Avengers just survived a brutal attack from the Multiversal Masters of Evil, leading to one of the Deathlok's getting a massive Celestial upgrade. In Avengers #54 by Marvel Comics, Jane Foster's Valkyrie manages to save a Deathlok from near-certain death by plugging the cyborg hero directly into their Celestial headquarters. However, in the process, she inadvertedly gave Deathlok an upgrade making him inhabit the body of the hollowed-out space god.

To stop the Multiversal Masters of Evil from destroying the Multiverse, the still-to-be-revealed Avenger Prime sent Deathloks across time to protect and warn the different timelines. While some of the Avengers deal with an attack from the evil alt-universe villains, the other team are left fighting for survival in their Celestial headquarters, as Thanos and Doctor Doom's attack leveled their base with bombs. The bombing seemingly left the Deathlok working with Namor, Black Panther, and Valkyrie dead, but Jane Foster just gave the reality-hopping hero a Celestial save his life.

In Avengers #54 by Jason Aaron, Juan Frigeri, David Curiel, and VC's Cory Petit, Namor, and Black Panther hold up pieces of their damaged Celestial base, allowing Jane Foster to get to Deathlok. Believing Deathlok has been killed, the Multiversal Masters of Evil continue their conquest hopping to a new reality. However, Foster keeps Deathlok alive by plugging his body into the Celestial necro-tech to keep him breathing. While Deathlok has no brain activity, and the Avengers believe they failed him, it's revealed his body was transferred into their broken Celestial base.

Deathlok Avengers Celestial-2

It's not clear whether Deathlok will be able to operate the Celestial like it's his own body - and even if he could, it's taken so much damage that might not be possible. Still, seeing Deathlok get a Celestial upgrade could have a massive impact on the Marvel Universe - especially leading into the Judgment Day event, where the Eternals will come face-to-face with their god-turned-Avengers-headquarters. Deathlok might become an all-new hero who stands out from his fellow Multiversal soldiers.

Playing with a Celestial has burned the Avengers before, but using the hollowed-out space god to save Deathlok was their only hope at keeping him alive. With a Celestial upgrade, will Deathlok be able to control the massive, dead creature? Will it give him the knowledge needed to defeat the Multiversal Masters of Evil? Or is he still only trapped, just in a different kind of body? Readers will find out more soon, as Avengers #54 by Marvel Comics is in comic book stores now.
