Warning: contains spoilers for Devil's Reign: Superior Four #2!
Marvel Comics has just revealed a powerful magic that makes the likes of an incredibly powerful variant of a villain unleashes one of the most powerful spells in the Marvel Universe.
In Devil's Reign: Superior Four, Doctor Octopus allies himself with the Kingpin, who seeks to outlaw superheroes in New York. While Otto Octavius aids Wilson Fisk in the capture of various superheroes such as Reed Richards and Susan Storm, his true prize is the Forever Gate: a device which can see inside and even travel through the Multiverse. Otto gathers three other variants of Doctor Octopus, possessing the powers of Wolverine, the Hulk, and Ghost Rider respectively. But Octavius' meddling attracts the attention of Doom Supreme, an incredibly powerful Octavius variant with the powers of the Sorcerer Supreme.
One by one, Doom Supreme easily dispatches the Octopus variants with powerful magic incantations that instantly immobilize and/or weaken Otto Blaze, Otto Howlett and Otto Banner. Octavius rises up to s(rather foolishly) top Doom himself, but Doom is prepared. "In my world, there is an incantation for technology. Break down under the gaze of the Exiz-Tenz Eyes." Doom's face contorts into an otherworldly image of eyes, and Otto Octavius' four arms are immediately immobilized. One later, they are severed.
Magic against technology is a common theme in the Marvel Universe, as both paths to power can similarly reward or corrupt. Tech-based heroes like Iron Man frequently fight magic s like Doom - and the battles usually end in Doom's favor. But this Doom Supreme now has a weapon that can immediately disable technology...which effectively makes him unbeatable to all non-magic s, for in a sense, any tool could be considered technology, even a spear. Technology isn't merely electronics and circuits, but all advanced tools not immediately found in nature.
Doctor Octopus has no chance against this spell; in a sense, the battle was over before it begun. Should this Doom Supreme variant travel to the 616 Marvel universe, he could easily dominate all non-magic s (and it's highly likely the magic s wouldn't last much longer). Only the likes of Doctor Strange could stand up to Doom Supreme...if only for a short while.
