Season 2.5 of Marvel Rivals adds another Strategist to the roster - Ultron. This Avengers villain is the ultimate killing machine, using a multitude of drone minions and devastating laser attacks to pursue its mission to eliminate all organic life. Despite its role as an enemy of humanity, Ultron can be an incredible ally when you use a number of tricks and strategies to your team.

Ultron is perhaps the most unique Strategist character in Marvel Rivals, possessing the ability to fly perpetually throughout a match. Unlike other Strategists who focus on healing allies behind the protection of their team, Ultron is extremely mobile through his abilities. In addition, Ultron has surprisingly high damage, acting more as a Strategist/Duelist hybrid than a traditional character in a "" role.

All Ultron Abilities

Fire Persistent Laser Rays And Command Drones To Allies

Ultron's abilities focus on healing allies ively while using his mobility and damage to eliminate enemies at the same time. This makes Ultron less concerned with keeping allies alive and rather picking off enemies who are in dangerous situations. Ultron can easily use his attacks to take out a crucial character on an enemy team, allowing the rest of his allies to gain the upper hand.

Due to Ultron's limited healing potential compared to other Strategists, good team comps in Marvel Rivals may want to have a second or third Strategist on their team besides Ultron to keep allies alive more often.

Due to his low health, Ultron has abilities designed to get him away from fights or sustain himself long enough to escape. Just like in the comics in which he appears, Ultron can be frustratingly difficult to take down if the player uses his abilities correctly. In my experience, Ultron's abilities a hit and run playstyle, very similar to Duelist characters like Spider-Man or Iron Fist.

With the incoming introduction of Ultron to Season 2.5, Marvel Rivals is committing to its rule-breaking trend with making hybrid heroes.

The table below goes over all of Ultron's abilities, how they work, and how long they may take to recover:

Ability

Ability Type (Key)

Cooldown

Description

Encephalo-Ray

Primary Attack (LMB, RT, R2)

6 Ray Blasts (Reload)

Ultron fires a continual beam of energy from his hand, with no restriction to its range. This burning beam concludes with a burst of energy that deals extra damage.

Dynamic Flight

Basic Ability (LSHIFT, L1, LB)

8 seconds

Ultron quickly dashes in the direction of movement you choose, entering an Accelerated state. During the limited time of this state, Ultron has increased mobility.

Imperative: Patch

Basic Ability (E, R1, RB)

N/A

Ultron commands a giant drone to follow an ally, constantly giving it Healing Over Time as long as it is attached. This drone heals other allies within the attached target's radius as well.

Imperative: Firewall

Alternate Attack (RMB, LT, L2)

10 seconds

Ultron summons drones to grant bonus health to himself and allies. This ability is centered on Ultron himself and the ally marked with Imperative: Patch.

Although Ultron doesn't have many abilities, his existing ones are all extremely important in different situations. For example, the lack of a cooldown on Imperative: Patch allows Ultron to switch his healing radius to different targets on the fly, making his extremely flexible during a fight. Ultron's abilities allow him to fulfill a hybrid role, defensively aiding allies while also being a mobile attacker on your team.

How To Use Ultron's Ultimate

Unleash The Machine's Rage Against Humanity

Marvel Rivals Ultron using Rage of Ultron Ultimate to heal allies and damage enemies

When you fully charge Ultron's Ultimate, Rage of Ultron, you can activate it to summon five different Ultron drones around yourself. When this happens, Ultron and his drones begin to fire multiple large blasts of energy around the battlefield, with each blast having a large AoE. When these blasts hit allies, they restore a large portion of their health, but when they hit enemies, they deal a sizable amount of damage.

Ultron's Ultimate is great to use when your team is grouped closely together, as the AoE blasts will heal your injured allies quickly. Each blast of Ultron's Ultimate deals a single burst of healing with every shot, similar to Adam Warlock's Quantum Magic. The splash field radius of these blasts are quite large, but keep in mind that the healing and damage falls off the further away allies and enemies are from each shot.

When Ultron is in his Ultimate state, he can still be damaged greatly, but he is immune to stun effects. This is similar to the Ultimate of The Punisher, so make sure to use it carefully to avoid getting eliminated while activating it.

While Ultron's Ultimate does decent damage, save the Ultimate to attack enemies only if they are at low health. Trying to use Ultron's Ultimate solely to damage enemies won't cause many to die, as enemy healers will easily outpace the damage being done. Instead, use this Ultimate as an opportunity for Ultron to be an incredibly vital character, especially if other Strategists in your group have been defeated.

Best Team Composition For Ultron

Marvel Rivals Ultron and Iron Man in Team-Up on Arrako map

Ultron has only one Team-Up in Marvel Rivals that may influence the best team comp for him, so there are a variety of characters who could work well alongside him. The extremely far range of Ultron's healing ability makes him great to use with aggressive characters who often find themselves without help against enemy teams.

Among some of the other characters on the roster, here are a few who could work well with Ultron:

  • Iron Man
  • The Human Torch
  • Storm
  • Doctor Strange
  • Captain America
  • The Thing

With the automatic healing field, Ultron works best with characters who often can't get help from other Strategists easily. With Captain America or The Thing, Ultron can place his healing field on them as they attack enemies aggressively, allowing them to survive for much longer. On the other hand, giving Ultron's healing field to Doctor Strange could impact multiple allies, as the Vanguard encourages teams to group up around him.

Marvel Rivals' new patch is releasing on Thursday, and it aims to address several quality of life issues, including letting players use more sprays.

Other flying characters tend to thrive with Ultron, as the fellow aerial heroes are much easier to with Ultron flying alongside them. However, Iron Man is the best character to have with Ultron due to their shared Team-Up - Nano Ray. When Iron Man is on a team with Ultron, Ultron can enter a state that changes his Encephalo Ray, causing it to pierce through allies and enemies to heal and deal damage respectively.

Always Stay On The Move And Keep Track Of Your Allies

Unfortunately, Ultron doesn't feel as strong as other Strategists in Marvel Rivals, but that doesn't mean he still can't be a powerful addition to any team. Due to the strength of the Iron Man Team-Up, you'll want to have Ultron with Iron Man to bring out a higher healing potential in the character. This helps Ultron fulfill his role as a Strategist more, while still allowing him to deal damage to enemies with the rest of his tools.

Ultron is best used as an aggressive flanking character or as someone who protects the backline of your team. Ultron can help eliminate overly aggressive enemies, especially those associated with the powerful "dive" meta like Spider-Man or Iron Fist. The damage of Ultron's Encephalo Rays makes him perfect for taking out low-health targets, either from afar or those who get too close.

Ultron can hit any target with his Encephalo-Ray across any distance. However, there is damage falloff on his primary attack, with his Imperative: Patch healing field disappearing if he loses sight of a marked ally as well.

The low health of Ultron makes him tricky to use, as being too aggressive will lead to his downfall. You'll want to use Ultron's above-average damage to pick off targets separated from enemy groups, such as a Squirrel Girl or Moon Knight too far away from their own Strategists. When pressured, you can use Ultron's healing and Bonus Health abilities to keep him alive, charging his Ultimate further in the process.

Try to stay alive long enough with Ultron to charge his Ultimate and change the course of a fight. Like other Strategists, the abilities and Ultimate of Ultron can your team in Marvel Rivals, giving them the necessary advantage in a chaotic fight to step closer to winning a match.
