Ultron's Battle Matrix Protocol is a new mode available in Marvel Rivals for alimited time, featuring a single-player option that allows players to test their team strategies in a unique environment. This mode functions like an auto-battler, enabling players to assemble teams in various formations to combat rival groups. Instead of playing in these matches, you organize a team to fight in simulated battles that grow as you progress.
Similar to all other modes in the game, you can earn experience for the Season 2.5 Combat Chest by playing Ultron's Battle Matrix Protocol matches. Unique rewards are offered to those who find success in this never-before-seen single-player experience, giving you an incentive to try out this content. Thankfully, this mode isn't one where you have to compete against other players, so the rewards aren't too difficult to earn.

Ultron Battle Matrix Protocol Schedule
Participate In Single-Player Matches For A Limited Time
The Ultron Battle Matrix Protocol modes lasts from June 6, 2025, until June 23, 2025, giving players a few weeks to enjoy a single-player Marvel Rivals experience. This is a very different timeframe from the small windows that were available for the Giant-Sized Hive Mind or Brain Blast modes seen earlier in Season 2. Unlike those events, which only saw the modes showing up on weekends, the Battle Matrix will be around constantly until the deadline.

With Ultron, Marvel Rivals Is Committing To Breaking Rules
With the incoming introduction of Ultron to Season 2.5, Marvel Rivals is committing to its rule-breaking trend with making hybrid heroes.
Throughout the mode's runtime, players can complete matches and earn points to gain rewards, but any items being offered will expire when the Battle Matrix leaves. This should encourage you to at least try the new mode for some cosmetics. While it is unclear if you will also earn Chrono Tokens, Units, or Lattice in Marvel Rivals from this mode, there is at least some incentive for playing a few matches within it.
How The Ultron Battle Matrix Protocol Event Works
Assemble Teams In Auto Battles That Grow With Modules
When you queue up for a match of Ultron Battle Matrix Protocol, you enter a single-player simulation where you pick every character on a six-person team. During this mode, you create a team and purchase Modules to modify it before facing another team in battle. When you have made adjustments to your team, you arrange character spawn locations in a 6x4 grind, creating strategic lineups to face off against opponents.
Modules have a variety of effects, including some of these as examples:
- Duelist characters take reduced damage by a certain percentage.
- For each Unique Role, increase ally heroes' Ultimate Ability Energy effeciency.
- Max health increases for Strategist characters in Marvel Rivals.
- Vanguard damage done increases.
These Modules appear before rounds start, almost as deck-building cards you can purchase using points earned from successful matches. The further you go without losing in this mode, the stronger Modules will become, with some even changing the Ultimate abilities of characters. You get to use Modules to customize the abilities and properties of individual characters or your whole team to have the best chances at victory.
Any matches played in Ultron Battle Matrix Protocol mode are against teams of AI opponents, with your own team also controlled by AI. You do not participate in matches yourself as any character, and rather observe matches as an Ultron drone.
The strategy at play in this mode revolves around what team comps you choose, where you place them on the battlefield, and what Modules you use to enhance their strengths. For example, you could go with a standard 2 Vanguards, 2 Duelists, 2 Strategists (2-2-2) comp, but some Modules may encourage an imbalance between roles. Since this is a single-player mode, you have much more freedom to experiment with different strategies.
When matches are played in the Battle Matrix, you have the ability to freely swap out heroes during the Module selection phase. Some points you earn can even be used to refresh which Modules are available, giving you even more flexibility to form unique strategies. As your team evolves through the Battle Matrix simulations, they'll be tested with harder and harder challenges until they lose.
Every Reward From The Ultron Battle Matrix Protocol
Earn Points From Victory To Unlock New Cosmetics
By completing matches, you earn points in the Ultron Battle Matrix Protocol mode, allowing you to unlock new cosmetic items. As of this time of writing, the d cosmetics from this mode are fairly simple, not including a free skin like the Cerebro Database II event in Season 2.5.

Marvel Rivals: Every New Skin From Season 2.5
Season 2.5 of Marvel Rivals introduces a variety of new costume skins for multiple characters, with some even being offered to players for free.
The following table goes over every offered reward seen for the Battle Matrix mode so far, including what type of cosmetic you are earning as you play:

References to Ultron's original form when he was created by Henry Pym (also known as Ant-Man), Ultron-1, are Easter Eggs only earned through the Battle Matrix. With the new Emoji system introduced in Season 2.5's Combat Chest rewards, players can express themselves more often with their team, similar to Emotes. This gives teams more ways to communicate, especially with the Acceptable Emoji, which acts as a thumbs-up.
The Combat Chest acts like a smaller Season 2 Battle in Marvel Rivals, giving players ways of earning new cosmetics. This Combat Chest offers three new skins, which are earned by gaining XP to level up through completed matches in almost any mode.
Although there aren't many rewards from the Battle Matrix mode, it stands as a one-of-a-kind single-player experience not offered anywhere else in the game. One could argue that the reward of this mode is not having to be in a competitive match between different players, with far lower stakes. As a result, I could see this mode being a relaxing alternative to the intensity of other gametypes.
When this mode releases, there is a chance more rewards will be offered through it or systems will change. That being said, the core intent of the Ultron Battle Matrix Protocol mode in Marvel Rivals will still be to use cerebral strategies to assemble your strongest team, place them correctly, and watch them acheive simulated victories.
