Warning! This post contains SPOILERS for Thor #30

In the latest issue of Marvel Comics' first Phoenix was one of Thor's mothers. Having been kidnaped by Corvus Glaive and taken to a forbidden former battlefield on Niffleheim where Thor's grandfather Bor fought Thanos, Laussa was meant to be a living key to unlock a dark and dangerous prize, most likely the Seventh Infinity Stone.

Needing the blood of Bor's family line in the new Thor #30 from Torunn Grønbekk and Nic Klein, Corvus cuts Luassa's arms and spills her blood, intending to use it to unseal a great vault held within a mountain that most likely holds the new Infinity Stone which Bor's sorcerers had a hand in creating, granting its power over life and death itself. As such, it makes sense why Thanos wanted it so many years ago. However, the vault remains shut in spite of Laussa's blood. As such, this seems to be a tease that calls back to the fire demon Surtur and his role as Laussa's second "father" beyond Odin (similar to the Thor and the Phoenix).

The Truth About Thor's Sister And The Blood of Bor

Thor's Sister Teasing Major Marvel Secret

It was already known that Laussa shares an inadvertent connection to Surtur as she was conceived by Odin and Freyja in the space between realms, the same place where Odin had purged Surtur's essence. However, it was believed that Thor's other sister Angela had successfully burned Surtur's spirit out of Lassa shortly after her birth. That being said, it had been teased that Surtur's spirit still lived within the young girl.

Now, this new issue has seemingly confirmed that Surtur is still very much Laussa's father. Thanks to the fire demon ruler of Muspelheim, Bor's blood doesn't flow as purely through Laussa's veins as it does for her brother. This is a strong indication that the darker part of her still exists and will likely continue to grow, making her more fire demon than Asgardian over time. This is rather concerning as future issues have teased that the future version of Laussa will become the new wielder of Mjolnir after defeating her brother in battle.

At any rate, it does seem likely that Laussa's connection to Surtur has persisted and will continue to cause her inner turmoil. Considering that fact that her blood didn't work, it's certainly possible that Thor's sister has more fire-demon within her than anyone ever realized. Thor #30 is on sale now from Marvel Comics.
