Summary

  • "Daredevil: Born Again" is bringing back Wilson Bethel as Bullseye, presumably continuing his arc from "Daredevil" season 3.
  • The show will hopefully explore Ben Poindexter's evolution into the MCU's full version of Bullseye and his potential revenge on Daredevil and/or Kingpin, making it even more like Daredevil season 4.
  • Other returning actors from Netflix's Daredevil include Charlie Cox as Daredevil, Vincent D'Onofrio as Kingpin, Jon Bernthal as Punisher, Elden Henson and Foggy Nelson, and Deborah Ann Woll and Karen Page.

Vincent D'onofrio as Wilson Fisk's Kingpin. Now, another exciting return is yet another positive sign that Daredevil: Born Again may indeed be looking to pick things up right where Daredevil season 3 left off.

Marvel's Echo where they were both featured. Echo also included some significant confirmation that Netflix's previous Marvel series are officially part of the MCU continuity as well. Combined with a collection of reported actor returns beyond Cox and D'onofrio, it truly does look as though Daredevil: Born Again could simply be Daredevil season 4 by another name.

Daredevil: Born Again Just Added Another Returning Marvel Netflix Actor

Wilson Bethel To Return As Bullseye

Bullseye as Daredevil attacking the New York Bulletin in Daredevil season 3

It's recently been reported that actor Wilson Bethel will be returning to play Bullseye in Daredevil: Born Again. As seen in Daredevil season 3, Bethel's character is first introduced as Benjamin "Dex" Poindexter, a former US army veteran and current FBI Agent. Having extraordinary and near-inhuman abilities as a gifted marksman, Wilson Fisk sees potential in Poindexter and starts manipulating and taking advantage of his mental instability, effectively molding him into his personal assassin.

Dex impersonates Daredevil and kills several people on Fisk's orders. This allows Kingpin to turn public opinion against Matt Murdock. However, the real Daredevil eventually discovers and exposes Fisk's manipulations to Dex himself, including Kingpin's murder of the woman Dex had been stalking out of misplaced feelings of affection. Enraged, the end of Daredevil season 3 saw Dex going after Fisk with Daredevil caught right in the middle. Although Fisk eventually broke Dex's spine, there was a major tease pointing toward Poindexter's future, one which can finally be paid off in Daredevil: Born Again.

Bullseye Was Set Up As The Main Villain Of Netflix's Daredevil Season 4

Poindexter Would Have Truly Become Bullseye

As seen in the final scene of Daredevil season 3's finale episode, it was revealed that Poindexter had agreed to a risky experimental surgery to heal his spine. Furthermore, a bullseye was seen in his open eye, teasing his full evolution into the MCU's Bullseye which would have likely played a key role in Daredevil season 4. Dex would have no doubt sought revenge either on Daredevil or Kingpin (perhaps both) in future seasons which weren't meant to be following Netflix's cancelation of all their Marvel shows.

Having been operated on by Marvel Comics' Doctor Oyama who has connections to Weapon X and Wolverine's adamantium on the page, it was Oyama's belief in the MCU that he could repair Dex's damaged spine using "cogmium steel". As such, it's quite possible that Bullseye could return even stronger and more powerful in Daredevil: Born Again, assuming the experimental bionic enhancements actually work.

Other Netflix Actors Returning For Daredevil: Born Again

Kingpin, Punisher, and More

Wilson Bethel has now ed an exciting list of actors and characters who will be returning for Daredevil: Born Again from the Netflix Marvel shows. Now only will Charlie Cox and Vincent D'onofrio return as Daredevil and Kingpin following their prior appearance in the MCU proper, but Jon Bernthal's Punisher was one of the first Netflix heroes confirmed to be making an appearance. It was also reported that Kingpin's wife Vanessa Marianna will have a role in Daredevil: Born Again, albeit recast with actress Sandrine Holt instead of Ayelet Zurer who originally played Vanessa in Netflix's Daredevil series.

Following Marvel Studios' massive reworking of Daredevil: Born Again's production, it's since been reported that Elden Henson and Deborah Ann Woll will also be returning to respectively play Matt Murdock's friends and legal partners, Foggy Nelson and Karen Page. Remarkably, it was originally reported before the production shift that the duo weren't going to be involved in the new series, a notion that had caught many fans of the Netflix show by surprise and had been rather upsetting.

A big part of the production changes involved Marvel's hiring of an actual showrunner for Daredevil: Born Again after the studio reportedly didn't like where the show was headed after the first few episodes were filmed. To that end, actors aren't the only ones making returns from the Netflix shows. Marvel has hired Dario Scardapane to serve as showrunner, having been one of the writers for Netflix's Punisher. Additionally, Mavel Studios has also brought on fight and stunt coordinator Philip Silvera who worked on the original Daredevil show, a very good sign for Born Again's action sequences.

Will Daredevil: Born Again Be Exactly Daredevil Season 4?

The MCU May Gloss Over Certain Elements

Daredevil beating up Kingpin in Daredevil season 3

All things considered, it certainly looks as though Daredevil: Born Again has all the right ingredients and people coming back to be something very special, an MCU project that now feels like it could be as close to the original Daredevil series as possible. While there may be some elements Marvel Studios chooses to gloss over like Wilson Fisk's freedom despite the uneasy deal that was made between him and Murdock at the end of Daredevil season 3, the return of Bullseye alone suggests the core beats will likely be addressed and expanded upon going forward in the show.

Daredevil: Born Again is currently in production and is set to begin streaming on Disney+ in 2025.
