As the end of the year rapidly approaches, we are all taking stock of our lives and thinking about how we could improve them in the future. Even after a very difficult and unprecedented year, many people are still making resolutions and goals for the new year.
However, we don’t often stop to think about all the fictional characters who could really use some New Year’s resolutions in their life. The villains and antagonists from our favorite franchises definitely could do a lot to improve themselves. And, while they would probably never take this advice, these are the goals that the MCU villains should try to set for themselves.
Ghost: Get therapy
Ghost is one of a handful of antagonists on this list that isn't purely evil. While some of these comic book villains are rather trope-filled and mostly just bad for their own gains, Ghost is someone who is also a victim. Ghost, whose real name is Ava Starr, is eventually healed by Janet Van Dyne, and after this, it would be a good idea for her to get therapy and start her life over.
Killmonger: Direct your great ideas in a less harmful way
There is definitely a lot of truth to some of Killmonger’s ideas, and it’s easy to relate to a lot of his anger. But, while he does have some good points, he is also selfish and out for himself. He wants power, and he is willing to put other people, even those who are most like him, at risk. He’s definitely one of the most compelling antagonists in the MCU, but he could have directed his frustrations differently.
Mysterio: Get over Iron Man
Mysterio is just one of many villains in the MCU who is connected to Tony Stark in one way or another. In fact, it’s sort of a joke at this point that Tony Stark creates villains left and right. While Iron Man has many, many flaws, Mysterio’s villain origin story is a little lacking. It’s not normal to become a supervillain just because your boss doesn’t like all of your ideas. So, honestly, he just needed to get over it.
Ultron: Become a real boy
Ultron is another villain created by Tony Stark, but in this case, it was his fault. Ultron shouldn’t have been created, and while he became something Tony didn’t intend, the rest of the team told him to stop, but he went ahead anyway.
While this resolution might be a bit sarcastic, it does play to the themes of artificial intelligence in the movie. Although, Ultron definitely thought he was better than any human.
Loki: Do something nice for Thor
Loki is another villain who is a bit more complex than some of the others. He’s definitely not a good guy by any means, but there are moments where he’s not completely bad. His trickster status and grey morality make him compelling. However, after how much Thor cares about him, Loki definitely should try to do something nice to him for once instead of stabbing him or turning into a snake.
Ronan the Acc: Watch a make-up tutorial
Ronan might be a Kree warlord, but his war paint needs a bit of work. Yes, he comes from an alien race, and he probably doesn’t care all that much about his appearance. But, his strong, raccoon eye look and the dark make-up dripping down his face doesn’t really look scary. It mostly just looks too hilariously emo.
Aldrich Killian: Don’t blame Tony Stark for your problems
Aldrich Killian is another villain who thinks everything bad that has ever happened to them can be blamed on Tony Stark. Sure, Tony should have been nicer to him and not left him on the roof at the New Year’s Eve party, but Killian can’t use this as an excuse to murder people.
He’s one example of why it’s hard to take some of the villains in the MCU completely seriously.
Justin Hammer: Be less pathetic
Justin Hammer is yet another villain from the Iron Man films who has spent most of his life competing with Tony Stark. Given that Iron Man is handsome, intelligent, and rich, it makes sense people would envy him. But, the way Hammer so desperately wanted to be like him was just pathetic. He really needed to work on his own self-worth.
Iron Monger: Don’t try to kill your pseudo-son
Howard Stark wasn’t that great of a father, and neither was Obadiah Stane. While he wasn’t Tony Stark’s dad, he stepped in as a father figure after Howard died. However, he was manipulating Tony all along, and he never actually cared about him. Then, he ordered a hit to have Tony killed. Suffice it to say he was really awful.
Thanos: Become a less horrible father
Speaking of horrible fathers, Thanos was really the worst. He pitted his adopted daughters against one another, and he tortured Nebula when she would lose. While lots of people like Thanos as a villain because he’s a rather comic book, over-the-top arch-nemesis, many people forget that he was also an abusive piece of work.
