Adrien Brody's comments about possibly taking a role in the Marvel Studios' X-Men reboot is in active development, with The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes writer Michael Lesslie penning the script for the movie expected to release after Avengers: Secret Wars. I can't wait to see how Marvel Studios reimagines the X-Men in the world of the MCU, especially if the cast includes some star-power such as Adrien Brody.

Currently, we don't know any of the Adrien Brody might actually be up for taking on an MCU role, and he has conditions that I reckon could only be met by one iconic Marvel character.

Adrien Brody Is Open To ing The MCU

In January 2025, Adrien Brody sat down with Josh Horowitz on the MCU's X-Men franchise.

Adrien Brody has a huge wealth of talent that would be a massive benefit to the MCU. He still holds the title of youngest ever actor to win the Academy Award for Best Actor, taking the trophy at 29-years-old for his role in 2002's The Pianist, and his frequent collaborations with Wes Anderson have seen him play some outlandish, fantastical and complex characters. This makes me think he would fit perfectly in the sometimes-ridiculous world of the MCU, and given his conditions for ing the franchise, I reckon there's one perfect character he could play.

I Think Adrien Brody Would Be Perfect As Magneto In The MCU

Magneto Is The X-Men's Most Notable Enemy-Turned-Ally In Marvel Comics

One of the most complex and unique characters in Marvel Comics' history is Magneto, and I think this would be the perfect character for Adrien Brody, given his recent comments. Magneto is an incredibly theatrical and dramatic character, which takes skills that Adrien Brody has displayed time and again to play accurately on-screen. Brody's dream of becoming the Joker could lead him to take a similarly-villainous role in the MCU, and Magneto fits the bill perfectly, though this casting would also give Brody the opportunity to show vulnerability, philosophy and even heroism.

The MCU's X-Men Reboot Can't Remove Magneto's Origin Story After X-Men '97's Powerful Message

The MCU will inevitably introduce a new version of Magneto in its version of X-Men, and it needs to keep Magneto's origin story like X-Men '97.

Perhaps most notably, there have been calls for the Jewish Erik Lehnsherr to finally be played by a Jewish actor in live-action, and Adrien Brody is of Polish Jewish descent. This would provide more comic-accuracy than Magneto's previous live-action adaptations, and perhaps produce a more intimate and heavy-hitting connection to Magneto's harrowing backstory as a survivor of the Holocaust. Under the right filmmaker, Adrien Brody could bring a fresh perspective to Magneto, which would help to separate the new iteration from Magneto in 20th Century Fox's X-Men franchise.

Adrien Brody’s Magneto Would Be Completely Different To His Previous Versions

Magneto Was Previously Played By Ian McKellen & Michael Fassbender

If cast as Magneto, I'd love to see Adrien Brody put his completely original spin on the Master of Magnetism. In Fox's X-Men franchise, Ian McKellen and Michael Fassbender both did a very good job at delivering a commanding, emotional and powerful Magneto at different points throughout his life, and it was great to see the character evolve in his various iterations. However, Fox changed huge aspects of Magneto's character for his live-action appearances, which Adrien Brody is very equipped to bring to life in the MCU's X-Men franchise.

At first glance, Adrien Brody may be an unconventional choice for Magneto. He doesn't exactly have the intimidating physique of the Master of Magnetism, but Brody would excel in other ways. His dramatic performance style, intense investigation of his characters' motivations and ability to balance vulnerability with strength would be great for Magneto. Brody could portray a more sinister, scheming and manipulative version of Magneto that we've never seen on-screen before, which has me very hopeful that this casting will come to fruition.

Why Magneto Is So Important To Marvel’s X-Men Stories

Marvel Studios Must Include Magneto In Its New X-Men Franchise

Magneto meeting with the X-Men in X-Men '97 episode 1

Magneto first appeared in Marvel Comics alongside the X-Men team in 1963's The X-Men #1, and he has endured as the team's most significant adversary in the decades since. However, Magneto isn't like your typical supervillain, but he actually strives for the same thing as the X-Men, just by using his own, more brutal, methods. While the X-Men founder and leader, Professor X, envisions a world where mutants and humans live side-by-side, Magneto's experience in the Holocaust has caused a hatred for humanity, and he fights to ensure mutants are never subjugated as he was.

The MCU's X-Men Magneto Recast Can Break An Important 24-Year Marvel Casting Trend

Marvel Studios' casting for the iconic X-Men villain, Magneto, needs to take into his important heritage and backstory from Marvel Comics.

This makes Magneto an incredibly poignant, relevant and important character, so I am certain that he will be one of the first characters reintroduced in the MCU's X-Men reboot. Magneto's significance in Marvel Comics' history and simply in the history of pop culture makes me think that Adrien Brody would jump at the chance to portray the legendary character. I would love to see Brody's interpretation of Magneto, especially if Marvel Studios finds the perfect visionary director to lead its X-Men reboot, and casts a formidable actor for Professor X who could play opposite Adrien Brody.
