Recent updates are adding to the rumors that a The Silent Hill Treatment Won't Work On Metal Gear
A Metal Gear Solid 3 Remake Could Honor The Game's Legacy
The latest update is not the first time Virtuos has been suspected of developing a Metal Gear Solid remake. Not long ago, one of the company's concept artists was spotted with a copy of The Art of Metal Gear Solid on their desk while recording a recruitment video, which some took as a clue to the remake's development. The ongoing remake rumors are a testament to fans' ion for the series, which has bled into other games like Elden Ring's visions of Snake meme.
After Metal Gear's creator, Hideo Kojima, left Konami to start his own production company, the future of the Metal Gear Solid franchise became unknown. Kojima's unique approach to development helped the MGS franchise stand out from other action games. Konami will have a difficult time finding a director who could add the same style and quirkiness to a new installment of the Metal Gear franchise. However, like Capcom's approach to Resident Evil, the Metal Gear series would benefit greatly from ground-up remakes that prioritize maintaining the same spirit and weirdness found in the original games.
Both Metal Gear Solid 2 and Metal Gear Solid 3 were delisted last year and made unavailable to purchase digitally due to the inclusion of archival footage which was no longer licensed. In celebration of the series' 35th anniversary, Konami announced that it is working to make the games available to purchase once again. Hopefully, Virtuos is working on a complete Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater remake rather than simply updating the original game for rerelease.
