This might be the year for My Hero Academia with the release of its final season and the anticipated premiere of its spin-off series, Vigilantes, which is shaping up to be the big hit for superhero anime fans. Vigilantes is an official prequel of My Hero Academia, supervised by its author, Kohei Horikoshi, written by Hideyuki Furuhashi, and illustrated by Betten Court, which gained recognition for its unique take on the underground criminal world that wasn’t grasped in the main story, and fans of the series are finally getting a release date to look forward to.
My Hero Academia: Vigilantes’ anime adaptation was confirmed in Jump Festa 2025, revealing the series would premiere in April 2025, produced by studio Bones. Now, just a month later, it was revealed on the anime’s official X that the series is slated to release on April 7, 2025, an announcement that was accompanied by a brand-new trailer that gives a sneak peek of the series' voice cast.
My Hero Academia: Vigilantes Reveals New Trailer Ahead of Its Spring 2025 Release
The Anime Has Finally Revealed the Voice Actors for Its Main Cast
While there was a promo video that served as a sneak peek to accompany the original announcement during Jump Festa 2025, the recent trailer is the first time fans get to hear the voice actors for Koichi Haimawari, Pop ☆ Step, and Knuckleduster, along with the notable features of younger versions of beloved characters from My Hero Academia like Eraser Head and Naomasa Tsukauchi, the police officer and best friend of All Might. The main cast of My Hero Academia: Vigilante includes:
Shuichiro Umeda as Koichi Haimawari |
Ikumi Hasegawa as Pop☆Step |
Yasuhiro Mamiya as Knuckleduster |
The trailer was narrated by Present Mic, which indicates that he would have the same role of describing the character’s quirks as in the main series. Additionally, this new installment in My Hero Academia’s franchise is sure to delight fans upon its release as it shows another side of the Hero society that was brushed off in the main story.
My Hero Academia: Vigilantes Could Sur the Original Series
Studio Bones May Aim for a Complete Adaptation
Unlike My Hero Academia, which focuses on high school students, Vigilantes stars young adults and since it features characters who live on the edge of the law in the eyes of the hero's society, the series has a darker and more mature tone compared to the original and shares more the feeling of western comic book heroes. Moreover, it offers a broader perspective of many characters in My Hero Academia, like All for One, Stain and even Eraser Head, which give more depth to the original story.

My Hero Academia: Vigilantes Is Getting an Anime, And It Could Easily Sur the Original Series. Sorry, Deku.
My Hero Academia: Vigilantes is an incredible series that's far more than just a prequel. Here's why MHA fans have good reason to be excited.
Vigilantes's story can also be enjoyed by those who aren't fans of the franchise and, given its original manga is already complete with only 126 chapters in 15 volumes, this could be the first season of many if Studio Bones decides to keep My Hero Academia's legacy alive after its finale. Nevertheless, Vigilantes' new trailer showed the anime won't be short of amazing animation and exciting fights and, luckily, fans won't have to wait much for its release.
