Mickey 17’s release date has been updated once again, and Robert Pattinson’s sci-fi is now slated for release by Warner Bros. Pictures on April 18, 2025. While consistent delays might usually spell trouble, Mickey 17 might actually benefit from it.

Mickey 17 being delayed until April 2025 is actually good for the movie’s box office chances. A January release date would have affected Mickey 17’s box office chances because the period following Christmas can be somewhat of a dead zone for movies. However, the new April 2025 release date positions Mickey 17 for Easter release. According to Deadline, a Warner Bros. spokesperson claimed that the company moved quickly to gain a new April release date for Mickey 17 as it also allowed the movie to be released in IMAX.
"When the April 18 date became available, we quickly moved to secure it for Mikey 17. We’re thrilled with the new date, and very happy the film will be available to audiences in IMAX. With January 31 now available with a full IMAX footprint, we are also very happy to have Companion releasing on this new date."
With a $150 million budget and five years in the making, Mickey 17 deserves its Easter release position. Additionally, Mickey 17 may help Robert Pattinson redeem his previous sci-fi movie, High Life, as the 2018 thrilling space-drama was underrated. High Life marked Pattinson’s last foray into the science fiction genre and was critically acclaimed yet failed to reach mainstream audiences. With an $8 million budget, High Life was a box office flop, earning only $2 million. Conversely, Mickey 17’s considerable budget, big names, holiday release, and IMAX status may lead to box office success for Robert Pattinson’s sci-fi.

Robert Pattinson appears to play a quirky character, the trailer’s “Ain’t That A Kick In The Head” soundtrack delivers an offbeat tone, and the story appears relatively simple. Additionally, the strange concept and lack of an established IP to back Mickey 17 up may put a dampener on its commercial success.

Robert Pattinson is set to produce a new A24 crime movie called Primetime, marking his return to A24 after working with them on 5 movies.
Nonetheless, Robert Pattinson has seen recent success in The Batman and The Boy and the Heron, which both set box office records. Bong Joon-Ho is also an established name, even more so after directing the Oscar-winning black comedy, Parasite, in 2019. While Mickey 17 offers a completely different genre to Bong Joon-Ho’s Parasite, his name might be enough to bring in audiences who want to see more of his work. However, having won four Academy Awards, Parasite gives Mickey 17 some big shoes to fill. Therefore, while Mickey 17 is still a box office risk, its delay will hopefully help the movie.
