Resident Evil movie franchise, but here's what she's done since that ended. Jovovich first got noticed as a model, before appearing in the cult comedy Dazed and Confused, and gaining widespread fame for her role as Leeloo in director Luc Besson's 1997 sci-fi blockbuster The Fifth Element. From there, Jovovich starred in The Messenger: The Story of Joan of Arc, and also played a role in the Ben Stiller fashion comedy Zoolander.

In 2002, Jovovich starred in the first Resident Evil, then went on to play the lead in five sequels. Needless to say, it's been her primary Hollywood calling card since. While some fans of the Resident Evil video games cried foul at Alice - a character invented for the films - getting more screentime then characters like Chris Redfield and Leon Kennedy, general moviegoers ate the movies up, leading to a total worldwide box office gross for the franchise of $1.2 billion.

Milla Jovovich in Hellboy

Milla Jovovich's first role following the Resident Evil franchise came in the 2017 historical drama Shock and Awe, directed by Rob Reiner. The film focuses on journalists covering the shady lead-up to President George W. Bush's war with Iraq, and Jovovich plays Vlatka Landay, wife of Woody Harrelson's lead character. Her next project was doing a few voices for Adult Swim's Robot Chicken, followed by the 2018 dystopian sci-fi film Future World, playing a villain called Drug Lord opposite star James Franco. In 2019 came Paradise Hills, a fantasy thriller starring Emma Roberts as a young woman sent to a mysterious reform school run by a villainous character called The Duchess, played by Jovovich.

Also in 2019, Jovovich played another villain, Nimue the Blood Queen in director Neil Marshall's 2019 reboot of the Monster Hunter, another adaptation of a Capcom video game directed by her husband Paul W.S. Anderson. Monster Hunter releases on September 4, and also stars Tony Jaa, Ron Perlman, Meagan Good, T.I., and Diego Boneta.
