The Caves and Cliffs update is making some major changes to Deepslate or previously known as Grimstone. This block has somewhat replaced Stone and Cobblestone inside the expanded depth of the world. One of the biggest changes in Minecraft is increasing the maximum height and depth of worlds. This not only allows players to build higher and dig deeper than ever before but also introduces Deepslate, which is a different form of Stone that players can craft into all sorts of things.

Before Minecraft 1.17, also known as the Caves and Cliffs update, players could dig down in the overworld as low as Y-level 0. After the update, players will be able to dig all the way an extra 60 levels to Y-level -60. Here players will find a bunch of new additions to Minecraft, including copper ore, cave generations, and threatening mobs.

Deepslate isn’t particularly hard to mine in Minecraft, as players simply need to dig underground to Y level 8. However, once players are near Y level 0, they will notice that Deepslate replaces most of the Cobblestone. In a sense, Deepslate acts as a marker in Minecraft that lets players know they have reached a certain depth. Deepslate has uses similar to Cobblestone but special use cases in crafting.

Where To Find Deepslate In Minecraft

Minecraft Grimstone Generation

Deepslate is a darker version of Minecraft's iconic stone block, and it can only be found in the deepest regions of the overworld. Deepslate begins to spawn below Y-level 8 and is mixed in with stone until about Y-level -11. Players looking to get Deepslate in Minecraft can mine the block below Level 16; however, they should be wary that it isn’t as common as other blocks. Deepslate does not have a specific spawn location in Minecraft and does not spawn in more quantities under a particular biome. This means players can mine the block anywhere in the overworld, albeit it will be time-consuming.

Having said that, if players head to the extreme hills biome and strip mine at Y level 11 have a higher chance of finding Deepslate along with other resources such as Diamonds and Emeralds. Players should keep a lookout for Deepslate as it appears in veins of three to four blocks, similar to Diamond veins in Minecraft. It is essential players have a strong pickaxe with the proper enchantments, as Deepslate blocks are harder to mine. This means that players should have a pickaxe with high durability if they plan to collect many Deepslate blocks. Deepslate can take the place of stone in crafting recipes. It can also be used to make slabs and stairs and can be smelted or used on a stonecutter to make polished variants. Deepslate may take longer to mine because how of its hardness in Minecraft, but it is worth the trip to collect.
