There's one conflict I'm expecting in the best Mistborn book, so I'm all in on more connections to the original characters.

Kelsier & Harmony Have Differing Views On How To Protect Scadrial

Kelsier Believes Harmony Should Take A More Active Role

The Lost Metal's epilogue sees Kelsier and Harmony coming to a disagreement on how to protect their planet in the aftermath of Autonomy's attack in Era 2. This moment foreshadows a major conflict to come in Era 3, which will be titled Mistborn: Ghostbloods. Kelsier, being the leader of the Ghostbloods, has been teased to have a more prominent role in this saga, making this disagreement with Harmony all the more critical. Having Scadrial's main Shard and its most dangerous organization in disagreement is horrifying for everyone.

Mistborn Era 3 Is Still Years Away, But Expect These 10 Cosmere Connections When It Debuts

Mistborn: Era 3 is Brandon Sanderson's next big series, and I'm expected to see these Cosmere connections happen throughout the series.

Harmony has kept a relatively ive stance, allowing the humans of Scadrial to develop on their own. Meanwhile, Autonomy has shared knowledge with her people on Taldain, providing them with technological advancements. This, of course, has led the always-active Kelsier to believe that Harmony isn't doing enough for Scadrial and wants him to take action. If there's anything we know about Kelsier, it's that he's going to do whatever he can to fulfill what he believes is right. In this case, that might put him directly against his old friend.

Kelsier Vs. Harmony Could Be Mistborn Era 3's Most Exciting Showdown

Their Conflict Is Complex & Personal

While it might be hard to read due to how much viewers love both of these characters, seeing Kelsier and Harmony forced to work against each other would make for incredible drama. The personal nature of it, in of how readers view the characters, will add to the heightened stakes. What's even more compelling, though, is that neither of them is explicitly right or wrong. Harmony is right that humans should be able to contend for themselves, but Kelsier is also correct that Scadrial needs to be prepared for what's coming.

Harmony is right that humans should be able to contend for themselves, but Kelsier is also correct that Scadrial needs to be prepared for what's coming.

I doubt Harmony will take an active role in working against Kelsier or the Ghostbloods, but I believe he'll be forced to take some measure of action to protect himself, possibly even calling upon Marsh (which would make for even more juicy drama). I could easily see Harmony continuing not to take action, eventually leading to a conflict where Kelsier decides that enough is enough. He'd hatch up a plan to trick Harmony, and the sky is really the limit for how reckless he could be if he thinks Scadrial is in danger.

It's Going To Be Hard Seeing Mistborn Era 1's Heroes Against Each Other

We All Love Both Of These Characters

Even though Kelsier has made some questionable choices and Harmony isn't exactly Sazed anymore, I feel a great deal of affection for both of these characters and don't particularly want to see them at odds, at least on a personal level. There's the part of me that wants all the characters I like to live in a happy sunshine land and be kind to each other, but I know narratively that the most effective and poignant drama will be to see two beloved characters at each other's throats.

I imagine that, regardless of the situation, we're going to see this dynamic from the new main character's POV. She's supposed to be a young Terris woman, which makes me think that Kelsier could end up finding some similarity between her and Vin. I don't think that would stop him from doing something reckless, but it could potentially ground him for the first time in centuries, causing him to consider the human factor of the situation. Since she'll ultimately be the protagonist of this trilogy, I imagine she'll end up finding a way to strike a balance between their views.

How Far Will Kelsier & Harmony's Conflict Go In Mistborn Era 3?

Kelsier Will Do Anything For What He Thinks Is Right

Kelsier and The Lord Ruler Mistborn

Anything involving Kelsier is pretty hard to predict. In 2017, Brandon Sanderson said, "Kelsier is different from other protagonists of my books in his harshness. It's what the world needed, but I believe in many other stories of mine, he'd have been the villain" (via WoB). The author has talked extensively before about how Kelsier is unpredictable and how even he's scared of the character as a writer, knowing that he's capable of almost anything.

All Bets Are Off For The Fantasy Genre If Even These 2 Adaptations Couldn't Get Made

Two major fantasy adaptations have been canceled, and it sets a bad precedent for other titles in the genre. Here's our current assessment.

1

As a fan of The Final Empire, it's hard not to love Kelsier and what he does for the greater good. However, like I said earlier, he's been far more questionable since then. Kelsier certainly believes he's in the right, but the world has drastically changed around him. Sanderson has described Kelsier as being a psychopath, suggesting a lack of empathy, fear, and problematic egotism. If Kelsier thinks he's in the right and that he can save lives by doing something to Harmony, he'll do so without regret or consideration of the fact that this god was once his friend.

Some readers have theorized that Kelsier would even attempt to take the Shards from Harmony, either expediting Sazed's transition into Discord or becoming Discord himself. On the one hand, it would undermine the Hero of Ages prophecy if it wasn't Sazed who became Discord, but on the other hand, having Kelsier control Shards would be an intriguing progression for the Cosmere. Only Brandon Sanderson knows the future of Mistborn for now, but I can't wait to see how he handles the Era 1 characters.
