It's been two years since the Modern Family series finale was released, yet the show remains as popular and binge-able as ever. Although the sitcom had its fair share of heartwarming moments, it's ed especially for its hilarious comedy and numerous meme-able moments.
From Andy's manny jokes to Cam screaming "Stella," the beloved sitcom provided many moments that could be perfectly encapsulated in memes that resonate with everyone. However, there are also a plethora of memes out there that can only be appreciated by true, hardcore fans of the series.
Fire & Nice
Claire and Mitchell have a complicated yet wholesome sibling relationship. While the two often butt heads, they also are always there for one another when it counts. One of their best ventures as siblings was their formation of the figure skating team, Fire and Nice, as teenagers.
This meme by High School Musical. Given the parallels between the two brother-sister pairs, Claire and Mitchell may as well be the grown version of the twins.
The Takatakatakataka
Gloria is easily one of the smartest and funniest people in Modern Family, with many outlandish stories from her past. While the show hones in on her irable qualities as a wife, mother, and individual, it also criticizes the disadvantages and discriminations posed on people who must learn English as their second language.
Despite this important discussion, the show also utilizes Gloria's learning of English as a comedic tool, as exemplified by this meme by despondent_beagle. In "Planes, Trains, and Cars," fans get to hear Gloria - who seemingly doesn't yet know the word helicopter - describe it using the sound it makes instead: taka taka taka taka!
Haley + Andy = Elite
Although there were many reasons Dylan was the right choice for Haley, they were not the OTP fans were rooting for. Rather, most people, like @adoringclaire, wanted Haley to end up with Andy, Jay, and Gloria's manny introduced in season 5.
Andy seemed to be perfect for Haley: he was adored by her family, he idolized Phil, and he challenged and complemented Haley in ways Dylan did not. Plus, their will-they-won't-they tension and their cute relationship had fans rooting for them until Adam Devine's unfortunate departure from the show.
I'm An Omelet!
In "Playdates," the Dunphy kids find themselves again unequipped to celebrate their uncle Mitchell, and in a panic, they try and arrange the best day for him to cash in his coupon for a day of fun. Although the siblings are frazzled, Mitchell ends up having a fantastic day and meeting some of his idols.
Amongst their shenanigans, the best part of Mitchell's day is hands down Luke's birthday song and dance. Having to improvise on the spot, he sings about Mitchell's omelet, a quick yet unforgettable moment engrained in the minds of hardcore fans like Redditor ohschitt7.
The REAL Spider-Man
Mitchell Pritchett has many iconic moments throughout Modern Family, but one of the more obscure ones is his entire adventure on "Halloween." Excited about being able to dress up in costume at his new job, Mitchell comes to work dressed as Spider-Man, before overhearing his colleagues roasting people who still dress up.
Wanting to fit in, Mitchell goes to great lengths not to expose his costume, giving some of the episode's best moments. Fans of Mitchell and the hilarious episode stan him donning the costume, with No Way Home.
That Fateful Morning
"Caught in the Act" was an episode that dealt with the uncomfortable topic of the Dunphy kids walking in on their parents. Although it ultimately led Phil and Claire to invest in a lock and have an important albeit unsettling conversation with their kids, it understandably scarred their children for some time.
Capitalizing on the popular "Photo taken moments before disaster" trend, Redditor kermie191 shared this meme that captures the three Dunphy kids in a simpler, happier time existing in ignorant bliss. Of course, real fans will know exactly what follows in the coming seconds.
Who Wore It Better?
Kim Kardashian's outfit for the 2021 Met Gala turned many heads and gained much attention over the internet. But one of the most unexpected comparisons was the one drawn by Lil_miss_Sunshine08, who immediately compared the outfit to an outfit worn in Modern Family's "Lake Life."
Of course, the meme will be unsurprising to true fans of the show since it highlights a memorable look of one of the show's best characters, Cam. Because of his sensitive skin, Cam must avoid the sun at all costs, prompting him to unabashedly step out in these all-white garbs. Who knew his iconic outfit would be compared to Kim's years later.
That One Parenting Class
Despite their faults, Jay and Gloria are undeniably good parents. Whether it be navigating new situations with Joe and Manny or trying not to repeat past mistakes made with Claire and Mitchell, both constantly try to do their best for their children.
That being said, they can be a bit lenient in their current parenting styles, especially since neither are first-time parents. This meme by @jacana_mommy perfectly captures that energy, especially given their hilarious horseplay while taking a parenting class in "Schooled."
Phil's Priorities
Phil is easily Modern Family. He is a good father and husband but is also shown as being hilarious and making the best of life's situations. Although he works hard for his family, sometimes his priorities are a bit questionable.
This post by @quarantined_memees showcases this side of Phil very well, highlighting his tendency to hone in on fun ideas like Phil's osophy instead of redirecting that focus to matters that are perhaps more important. While he is a devoted father, his goofy antics are also a large part of his brand.
It was Ida-Mae Mann All Along
Modern Family is so iconic that even WandaVision parodied its best elements. This is why fans of both shows couldn't resist drawing comparisons between the two, but only die-hard Modern Family fans will get this hilarious meme posted by Redditor UI-Drago,
In "The Last Halloween," Phil plays out a very long-executed prank on Claire with the help of his fabricated character, Ida-Mae Mann. Fans of both series will have a great laugh at seeing Agatha compared to Phil's Ida-Mae, the scary witch with her witty theme: I da main man.
