Mitch and Cam's story on Modern Family ended with some big changes for the couple, and they deserve a spinoff show to explore the next chapter of their lives.
Modern Family recently ended its impressive 11-season run on ABC. The comedy series put a spin on the stereotypical modern American family by chronicling three branches of the same family. The show follows patriarch Jay Pritchett and his adult children's families, and their daily interactions with one another. At the beginning of the show Jay's son, Mitch, adopts a baby girl named Lily with his partner, Cam.
Modern Family saw Mitch and Cam go through everything life could throw at them. Over the course of the series, they get married, learn how to be first-time parents, juggle various careers — things the majority of audiences can relate to. Just when it seems like they have life figured out, the Modern Family series finale throws some exciting curveballs at them. The next chapter for the Tucker-Pritchett clan would be well-suited for a spinoff series.
Completing Cam and Mitch's Arc
Cam and Mitch had a few storylines that lasted through the majority of Another Cam-centric storyline on Modern Family was his desire to move back to Missouri, so they could be near his family for a while. Mitch made a promise that it would happen one day, but he never intended to follow through.
Modern Family, Cam and Mitch were finally reaching these goals. Their old adoption agency called them out of the blue and told them there was a baby boy available for adoption. With the addition of Rexford Tucker-Pritchett, they finally grew their family. Cam also managed to find his way back to Missouri. He was offered his dream job coaching a football team at a Missouri college, so he decided to take it. In their final moments on the show, Cam, Mitch, Lily and baby Rexford are on their way to start a new life in Missouri.
Good storytelling allows its audiences to imagine a future for its characters when the story comes to an end. That's exactly what Modern Family did. But while most of the characters' various storylines saw payoff before the series finale, Cam and Mitch's story arcs did not. They deserve a spinoff series so audiences can see the a decade of jokes and storylines come to a complete close.
