The ancient Egyptian god known as Khonshu was the entity responsible for turning the former mercenary Marc Spector into the vigilante Kang the Conqueror. Kang is constantly on a mission to manipulate the timestream and create a world over which he rules with an iron fist. In one instance of Kang’s villainous ploy over the timeline, Moon Knight was the only hero who had the power to stop the Conqueror, all because of the assistance offered to Spector by the moon god he worships.
In Moon Knight Vol. 8 Annual #1 by Cullen Bunn, Ibrahim Moustafa, and Matt Horak, Kang the Conqueror is successful in resetting the timeline and altering the world to fit his liking. Unaware of the changes to his world, Moon Knight is battling criminals in an alleyway when he is visited by his god Khonshu. Khonshu tells Spector that his world has been altered, alerting him to the changes made by Kang.
With the knowledge Khonshu ed on to Moon Knight, the vigilante was able to take down the multiversal villain. Kang the Conqueror would have kept the world as he would have it had it not been for the divine intervention on the part of Khonshu. The reason Khonshu was able to divulge this information to Moon Knight is because of the ability Moon Knight has to communicate with the moon god, a power he was granted upon his rebirth as Moon Knight. Plus, Khonshu isn’t held down by the restrictions of mortals of which Kang can manipulate, therefore the god was free to alert his greatest warrior on Earth of the change.
While it is in Khonshu’s best interest for Moon Knight to succeed in any given situation as Spector is the god’s warrior on Earth, it wasn’t just out of the kindness of the god’s heart as to why he told Moon Knight of Kang’s deception. In the ancient past, Kang stole Khonshu’s magical totem to use for his own purposes, all the while insulting the god, saying that the power he wields is even greater than any god, especially Khonshu. Given that blatant act of disrespect, the moon god did everything in its power to ensure Kang’s failure.
Moon Knight has a huge advantage over Kang because of the information Khonshu gave to him, but that leg-up doesn’t just apply to Kang. There are many other characters who can alter the world without anyone knowing. Arguably the greatest of such accomplishments was done by Scarlet Witch during the House of M storyline. While Moon Knight didn’t have a huge role to play in that story, it is conceivable that he would also be alerted to that change in reality by Khonshu just as he was with Kang, and any future reality warps that may happen. Since Khonshu can tell Moon Knight anytime his timeline is altered, Moon Knight has a huge advantage over Kang the Conqueror.
