Moonlighting, a popular 1980s television series starring Bruce Willis, finally finds a streaming home for the first time in its existence. Airing on ABC from 1985 to 1989, the series starred Cybill Shepherd as a former model and a mostly unknown Willis as a smart-aleck detective who partner up to manage a private agency and solve cases. Though Moonlighting was a massive ratings success for much of its run and is credited with popularizing the dramedy genre on television, the series has never been available to stream on any platform, until now.

According to Vulture, Moonlighting will finally be available to stream starting next month. Hulu will add all five seasons and 67 episodes of the show to the streaming service starting on October 10. Interestingly enough, Moonlighting's release date on Hulu falls on a Tuesday, the same day the show used to air on ABC for almost its entire run during the 1980s.

Why Moonlighting Took So Long To Come To Streaming

One year ago, creator Glenn Gordon Caron announced that he had convinced Disney, whose defunct production company ABC Circle Films produced the show, to invest the requisite resources into making Moonlighting available on streaming. For starters, this included the onerous process of transferring the show from film to digital and remastering it in high definition. They also needed to secure the streaming rights for the music used in Moonlighting, including the opening theme performed by Al Jarreau.

After a long and arduous process, the theme and most of the songs originally used in the show have been cleared for streaming on Hulu. However, it remains unclear if Moonlighting will also stream on Disney+ after the two streaming services made plans to merge their content earlier this year. As previously mentioned, Moonlighting was a massive success during the 1980s, though it's mostly unknown to those born after it went off the air. Its streaming availability on Hulu should hopefully introduce it to a younger, and overall larger, audience.
