Excitement has been building for a brand new Soulslike game called Mortal Shell, that could be a great replacement for fans who are biding their time until like in the Dark Souls series. Little is known about Mortal Shell other than the brief announcement trailer that was shown for it, but luckily there will be more info coming very soon according to developer Cold Symmetry.
The Soulslike genre has gained more and more traction over the years as fans have reveled in difficult combat and exciting boss encounters. Most gamers credit the first fans of Soulslike games have plenty to choose from, and it seems that Mortal Shell can be added to that list.
Gamers will be able to learn more information about Mortal Shell during the 2020 Summer of Digital Showcases. IGN will be featuring the game on June 5th as part of its Summer of Gaming event, and this is being used as Mortal Shell's world premiere. This event will show off gameplay for the first time, and also give players a better idea of what Mortal Shell will be about. Cold Symmetry has stated that they will releasing assets and small sneak peaks of Mortal Shell in the days leading up to the world premiere.
When Mortal Shell was first being developed, the game was called Dungeonhaven. The name was changed as development went on and the developers changed their focus. With only 15 , Cold Symmetry is a very small team, but many of them are veterans of the industry who have worked on AAA video games in the past. The studios three founders said in a t statement, "For a small team like ours, developing this title in many ways felt like crossing an ocean on a paddle board. To finally announce Mortal Shell is one of the most exciting and terrifying experiences we’ve had in our lifetimes."
Despite knowing very little about Mortal Shell, the trailer looks very promising. The gaming industry may be over-saturated with Soulslike games, but that doesn't mean that another entry is a bad thing. With the proper amount of innovation and unique features, Mortal Shell could very well deliver the fresh breath the genre really needs. Gamers will have to wait until June 5th to find out more about Mortal Shell.
Mortal Shell will be revealed on June 5th during the IGN Summer of Gaming event.
