The X-Men lore into the MCU. In doing so, it added another important fictional country from the comics to its roster, expanding the world of the franchise in unique ways.

Madripoor is just one of several integral fictional countries in the comics, like Wakanda or Sokovia. Some of the most significant have yet to be introduced in the MCU, though their debut can't be far off, and may have been hinted at already in some of the details present in both FAWTS and WandaVision.

Madripoor

The island nation of Madripoor is a major location in X-Men comic books. The island, which first debuted in the pages of New Mutants #32 in 1985, is a mostly lawless country in Southeast Asia.

It's a major hub of international crime and at one point in its history was a haven for pirates. The X-Men have been involved there at various times over the years, especially Wolverine. Madripoor is the location of the first meeting between Wolverine and Captain America, which occurred during World War II.

Genosha

Sentinels Genosha

Another major island nation with heavy ties to the X-Men is Genosha. This country, located off the coast of Africa, has a tragic history in the comics. It has been the scene of some of the most horrific moments in Marvel Comics history, both in the mainstream Marvel-616 universe and alternate ones like the dystopian future of Age Of Apocalypse.

In the comics, Magneto took over the country and established a mutants-only nation, an early attempt at what is currently transpiring on the living island of Krakoa in the current X-Men comics today.

New Attilan

Medusa and Black Bolt in the comics.

The Inhumans are famous for the kingdom of Attilan on the moon in the comics, but Attilan has moved around a bit over the years. Remnants of the former realm of Attilan were reconstituted into New Attilan and occupied different places on Earth. The most significant was in the Hudson River in New York City.

The Inhumans are currently back on the moon, but their prominence in the comics is somewhat diminished lately. This is ironic given how hard that Marvel had pushed the Inhumans as a replacement for the X-Men in recent years.

Sokovia

This Eastern European country didn't exist in the comics until the MCU had introduced it. It was then retroactively added into the comics universe, where it is a former Soviet Bloc country. In the comics, the country was invaded by the Red Skull, one of Captain America's most powerful enemies.

Symkaria

Doctor Doom Silver Sable Friends

Another European country in the neighborhood of Sokovia is Symkaria. This is the home of Silver Sable, located within the Balkans. Silver Sable is a mercenary and owner of Silver Sable International and is an unlikely friend of Spider-Man in the comics.

Symkaria is a monarchial kingdom that is largely notable for the country that it borders. Symkaria shares an uneasy border with Latveria, the kingdom of Doctor Doom, though the two share a somewhat cordial relationship compared to Latveria's other international relations.

Transia

Darkhold Wundagore Mountain Chthon

Yet another Eastern European country that factors heavily into the comics is Transia. Transia is the location of Wundagore Mountain which is the birthplace of the powerful twins Quicksilver. Wundagore may have actually appeared in the MCU already.

At the end of WandaVision, Wanda is living in a home in a remote, unnamed place near a mountain. It's possible this is Wundagore or is somewhere in her MCU-native Sokovia. The mountain is also the site of deep and dark magic, connected to Chthon, the Lord of Chaos Magic, who may play a role in the future of the MCU.

Atlantis

Namor War

Another major fictional country in the comics that could be of immense importance in the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is the kingdom of Atlantis. Atlantis is the sunken kingdom of Namor, sometimes enemy and sometimes ally of the Fantastic Four (and the romantic partner of FF member Invisible Woman).

Atlantis remains a powerful and advanced nation despite its watery location and has led several attacks against the surface over the years, most notably against Wakanda. Atlantis also appears to have been teased in WandaVision, in the ancient and mysterious magic of Agatha Harkness.

Krakoa

One of the most important - and most powerful - countries in Marvel Comics at the moment is the living island of Krakoa. Once an enemy of the X-Men, the fascinating island of Krakoa has become the near-idyllic home of all mutants in the Dawn Of X era that began in 2019.

Krakoa connects to the rest of the world and the entire Marvel universe through a network of gates that expands even more on the tremendous power of mutants in the comics. All may not be perfect, though. Krakoa seems to harbor a serious threat in its largely unexplored recesses.

Latveria

Latveria is one of the most critical fictional Marvel Comics countries. This Eastern European kingdom is home to Doctor Doom, one of Marvel's most heinous villains.

Latveria is nestled in the Balkans like many other major Marvel countries and is a small, mostly rural nation that depends largely on the sale of technologies from Doom. The country has yet to appear in the MCU but if it does, it could play a major role. It may have already. Baron Zemo noted Sokovia had been absorbed into neighboring countries, one of which could be Latveria.

Wakanda

Perhaps the most important fictional country in the comics and the MCU is Wakanda. This African nation existed in secret for centuries before emerging on the world stage in modern times. Home of King T'Challa, the technological advancements and contributions to science.

It has come into conflict in the comics with both Atlantis and Latveria, portending some serious conflicts in the MCU if those kingdoms emerge in the franchise. Wakanda will be showcased in the World Of Wakanda Disney+ streaming series.
