The fan requests to have Mother 3 finally get released in the west have been constant ever since the game's release in Japan way back in 2006. When one fan once more asked former Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aimé about Mother 3, he gave a very Reggie-like response to the request.

Mother 3 is a unique title in Nintendo's library. Being part of the weird and wacky Earthbound series, it's known for its dark and mature themes, yet it can also be humorous. As the game is currently available only Japan, the requests to have it brought to the west for release have become infamous. Nintendo's Robot Chicken-styled skit during E3 2014 had Reggie acknowledge the requests for Mother 3, only to comically use a fire flower on an insistent fan.

Reggie gave a similar type of response on Twitter when asked about Mother 3. vermont_boy noted that the 15th anniversary of Mother 3's release was coming up in response to a tweet by Reggie Fils-Aimé about the anniversary of The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. Reggie's response was a clip of him firing laser beams from his eyes, a troll response that is very befitting for the former Nintendo of America president.

Update (4/16/21 9 AM EDT): Further trolling his Nintendo followers, greatest Nintendo moments of Fils-Aime's long, long career of pranks and skits.

Reggie Fils-Aimé retired from his position as Nintendo of America president in 2019. Afterward, during a lecture at Cornell University he stated that he was glad he wouldn't have to be asked about Mother 3's release in the west. In 2020, he ed Gamestop's board of directors to try and help the struggling game retail chain, but most recently he has filed his resignation from that position. He is also currently the strategic advisor for Indie publisher Rogue Games.

Sadly, it seems as though fans of Mother 3 are no closer to having the game being released in the west. Though since Reggie stated that "this is a decision I'm no longer part of," it's not as though he would have been able to provide a satisfying answer to begin with. Still, the response he did give, though expected, was very amusing and in character. Reggie was known for his bursting personality during the time he worked at Nintendo, and though it has been two years since Reggie has retired, time hasn't dulled his witty edge. But as far as Mother 3 is concerned, the answer as to whether or not the west will see a release of the long-coveted title is and will likely remain a mystery.
