Rob Zombie confirms that filming has wrapped on his reboot of Herman, Lily, and Grandpa. The original Munsters aired for two seasons on CBS from 1964 to 1966. Over the years, there have been a handful of attempts at rebooting the loveable monster family, yet none of them were able to match the success of the original. Zombie, who is most known for his gruesome rated-R horror flicks, is the latest director to attempt the impossible, with Jeff Daniel Phillips as Herman, Sheri Moon Zombie as Lily, and Daniel Roebuck as Grandpa starring in a new PG movie.
The exact plot of The Munsters is still unknown, but Zombie has provided constant updates during his pre-production and filming schedules. The early teases came in the form of the movie's logo and construction photos of 1313 Mockingbird Lane, the titular family's mansion. Eventually, fans got their first look at Herman, Lily, and Grandpa's redesigns, which eased some concerns people had about him tackling a family-friendly franchise. Zombie kept fans in the loop as he wrapped filming with minor characters like Jorge Garcia (Floop) and Catherine Schell (Zoya Krupp), and now the director has reached another significant milestone.
Zombie revealed on Instagram that The Munsters has officially finished production. The director stated he is flying home from Budapest, where the reboot had been filming since November 2021. Herman, Lily, and Grandpa are getting fresh redesigns for Zombie's reboot, but the characters' outfits aren't too far off from what was seen in the '60s. Zombie has stated before how much of a ion project The Munsters is to him, which explains why the first trailer for The Munsters recreated the '60s intro nearly shot for shot, minus the inclusion of Eddie and Marilyn. Zombie has still not confirmed whether these two original characters will play a part in the reboot's story. However, in yet another way to honor the original show, Pat Priest (Marilyn) and Butch Patrick (Eddie) have both been cast as new characters for the reboot.
New images from The Munsters have been a refreshing change of pace from studios' usual secretive filming process, but having the movie finished with production is arguably more exciting. The first trailer for The Munsters didn't provide many clues about the movie's story. However, now that the film has wrapped shooting, the next trailer should be coming soon to give fans a better idea of what is in store for them this fall. With the Halloween season quickly approaching, Universal will likely start ramping up the marketing campaign for The Munsters in the coming weeks.
