As the universe of the ever-popular procedural series continues to grow, a new NCIS spinoff, NCIS: Tony & Ziva, is in the works at Paramount+. The NCIS franchise launched in 2003 as a backdoor pilot on JAG, and follows the agents of the Naval Criminal Investigative Service as they solve cases that take place within the United States military system. Over its two decades on the air, NCIS has blossomed into a bona fide TV institution with several successful offshoots that follow the same format.

Even as NCIS climbs past its 20th season, the franchise is reaching a new period of expansion in the 2020s with the announcement of fresh spinoffs. Instead of merely replicating the success of the original series in a new location, the latest spinoffs are more character-driven and even take place in different periods in the show's timeline. The spinoff NCIS: Origins chronicles the adventures of young Leroy Gibbs in the early 1990s, and the new Tony and Ziva series will bring the beloved power couple back into the story, years after they departed from the main show.

As anticipation builds for the spinoff, the release window for NCIS: Tony & Ziva was expected to be at some point in fall 2025, but a specific release date was previously unknown. Now, there is a much narrower window for fans to expect the series. Paramount hosted a conference call for investors in May 2025 that included information on some of their projects. During the call, NCIS: Tony & Ziva was said to have a planned August 2025 release date, though the exact date was not mentioned (via GeekSided).

The show's release schedule hasn't been announced either, so it isn't clear if the show will drop all 10 episodes at once or air weekly like a network series. If the show is set to release weekly, that might allow for a potential crossover between the final episodes of the season and the flagship NCIS series, which is set to debut its next season on CBS this fall.

The NCIS universe is once again expanding with the unexpected Tony DiNozzo and Ziva David spinoff, and the new shoe has a lot of story to cover.

NCIS Goes To Europe In The New Spinoff

The new spinoff will catch up with Tony and Ziva as they live their lives as parents in Paris, .

One aspect of the story that viewers are eager to see is the family dynamic of the series. Paramount+ dropped the first official images from the spinoff, and they highlight Tony and Ziva's family dynamic. One image shows the trio standing on a street looking back as young Tali clings to her mother, while others show Tony working closely with his team. A particularly silly picture includes Tony making Tali laugh while they sit at an outdoor café, while another teases danger by showing Tony looking at a handgun in a locker.

The images might not tease much of the story for the audience, but they do give an idea of how devoted Tony and Ziva are to their daughter heading into the show.

See the images here:

Set more than a decade after both characters initially departed from NCIS, the new spinoff will catch up with Tony and Ziva as they live their lives as parents in Paris, . Though Ziva returned for NCIS season 17, she quickly left once again to reunite with Tony and raise their daughter Tali. The series will presumably fill in the gaps by explaining what both characters did in the intervening years and what they did while living overseas.

The conflict in the spinoff will come from Tony's side of the story, as the security firm he works for is attacked by some unknown force. This forces the family to go on the run throughout Europe and offers the franchise's first truly globetrotting story. Few other details have been provided thus far, but it seems as if NCIS: Tony & Ziva will be a departure from the procedural format of other shows in the franchise. As more information is revealed, the full picture of what will happen in the spinoff will become clearer.

NCIS: Tony & Ziva Trailer

The Trailer Has Broken Franchise Records

Paramount+ released the first trailer for NCIS: Tony & Ziva in May 2025, and the reactions to the trailer prove that the appetite for the show is huge. Tony and Ziva remain hugely popular characters for the franchise, so it is not surprising that the trailer would garner a large amount of attention. It has, however, become the most-viewed trailer of any Paramount+ original series (so far) and the most-viewed trailer for the NCIS franchise as a whole.

While it does not give too much away, it does show the title characters on the run with their daughter and utilizing their signature banter with one another. It also hints at trouble between the two, though, with Ziva not being particularly forthcoming about her relationship with Tony in therapy. All of the hints given to their new lives (and troubles) away from their previous work with NCIS, however, only make the anticipation for the premiere of NCIS: Tony & Ziva grow.
