While The Neighborhood season 8 will bring the show’s successful run to a close. The misadventures of Calvin, Dave, and their very different families will end with this outing.

Although The Neighborhood’s Marty and Malcolm spinoff was canceled, the show’s sitcom universe will still live on thanks to Tracy Morgan’s spinoff series Crutch. That said, the series finale of The Neighborhood still represents the end of an era. The family sitcom has been on the air since 2018 and, for one series star, its conclusion will bring an end to a major career streak. Luckily, this doesn't necessarily need to be a bad thing for the versatile actor.

Max Greenfield Has Starred In Network Sitcoms Every Year Since 2011

The Neighborhood Star Previously Played New Girl’s Schmidt

As The Neighborhood season 8 comes to a close, the show’s ending will make it the first time since 2011 that Max Greenfield isn’t starring in a network sitcom. As well as appearing in Hot In Cleveland, Happy Endings, The Mindy Project, Will and Grace’s revival, Bob’s Burgers, and many other non-network sitcom shows, Greenfield starred as Schmidt in New Girl from 2011-2018 before playing Dave in The Neighborhood from 2018-2025. His hot streak will likely continue until 2026, as The Neighborhood season 8 is likely to wrap up around April/ May of next year.

Greenfield’s impressive 14-year streak is almost certain to come to a close with the end of the CBS show.

While Greenfield might have appeared in The Neighborhood’s planned Marty and Malcolm spinoff, it would make less sense for his character Dave to crop up in Crutch. As such, Greenfield’s impressive 14-year streak is almost certain to come to a close with the end of the CBS show. Greenfield’s run isn’t the longest that a network star has gone in a sitcom role since the lead actors of The Simpsons have played their characters for 35 consecutive years. However, it is undeniably an impressive achievement for the star, particularly considering his other career pursuits.

The Neighborhood's canceled Marty and Malcolm spinoff ironically means season 8 of the CBS sitcom can fix Marty and Courtney's relationship sooner.

Greenfield put years of work into smaller TV appearances before getting his big break in Veronica Mars. The actor appeared in episodes of Gilmore Girls and Boston Public, as well as playing a young Sandy Cohen in one episode of The O.C, but it was his role in Veronica Mars and his eight-episode run in Ugly Betty that saw Greenfield’s profile rise early on. Soon, the actor gained a five-episode role in the fraternity drama series Greek, and this was followed by appearances in No Ordinary Family, Lie to Me, and Castle before he nabbed his acclaimed role as New Girl’s Schmidt.

What’s Next For Max Greenfield After The Neighborhood Season 8

The New Girl Actor Now Stars In Netflix’s Running Point

While The Neighborhood’s season 7 ending proves that the show still has more stories to tell in its final outing, viewers are not likely to see Greenfield in another network sitcom when the series wraps up. Greenfield currently plays Lev Levenson, the fiancée of Kate Hudson’s Isla, in Netflix’s sports comedy show Running Point. Co-starring alongside Justin Theroux, Brenda Song, Utkarsh Ambudkar, and Chet Hanks, Greenfield earned solid reviews for his role in the first season of this series.

However, although Running Point’s Rotten Tomatoes score is solid, it is worth noting that Greenfield does not have another network sitcom role lined up yet. The star does have another year to secure a role that would lengthen this impressive career streak, but it would also be understandable if the actor wanted to take a little time off network sitcoms specifically. Either way, The Neighborhood season 8 will add a 14th year to Greenfield’s already-impressive career streak.
