Netflix's popular Spanish-language drama significant cast changes. The show was created by Carlos Montero and Darío Madrona and is centered around an elite private school called Las Encinas. At the beginning of season 1, Las Encinas takes on three scholarship students after a school in the working-class area of the city collapses. The first episode introduces the central mystery of the season, which is the murder of Marina, one of the students. The show then follows two paralleling timelines: the aftermath of the murder, and the events leading up to it, until the identity of the murderer is finally revealed in the season finale.
Both season 2 and 3 revolve around similar mysteries and follow the same split timeline structure, yet successfully move forward both the plot and the characters' development. Alongside these darker themes, Elite also has plenty of sex, relationship drama, and other normal troubles for the teenagers. The show has an extensive cast, featuring Itzan Escamilla, Miguel Bernardeau, and Mina El Hammani, as well as Money Heist (La Casa Del Papel). Elite has been very popular both with critics and fans, with many hoping for a fourth season.
The show's official twitter announced the news with a video of the season 4 cast. They share their excitement about what they've read in the new scripts, saying, "it's intense," and "there are many new things going on you could never think of." There are a few main cast who won't be returning, including El Hammani, Ester Expósito, Danna Paola, Jorge López, and Álvaro Rico. The rest of the regular cast with reprise their roles, and there will be new additions announced later.
The upheaval of the cast isn't a huge surprise, given a handful of cast have left the show throughout its first three seasons, with at least two main characters being killed off. Elite's renewal comes just over two months after season 3's release on March 13, 2020. The show first premiered on Netflix on October 5, 2018, with season 2 arriving Kingdom (South Korea).
Though the end of the third season clearly said goodbye to some characters, there's still plenty to explore in season 4 with the characters still at Las Encinas. Based on what's happened in seasons 1 through 3, the plot of season 4 will most likely revolve around a new mystery, though we will just have to wait and see what exactly that is. Elite has continually delivered intense drama and great acting, and season 4 is sure to be just as thrilling and satisfying.
