Out of all the new anime coming out in 2025, my most anticipated series could become the next big hit shojo. After a huge year for anime fans in 2024, the new year is shaping up to have a great selection of new and returning shows. Some of the most hyped series of the year include the return of Spy x Family in October, as well as the adaptation of the hilarious horror comedy, Night of the Living Cat. However, I have my eyes fully set on a new shojo series that has a ton of potential.

Based on the manga by Iwatebineko, The Invisible Man and His Soon-to-Be Wife is a new anime that stars Shizuka Yakou, a blind woman working for a detective agency. Her boss, Akira Tounome, is an invisible man. When he discovers that Shizuka has her own gifts that allow her to know whenever he's close by, he becomes attracted to her and begins a journey to court her on a date. It's an unlikely romance that stems from the supernatural side of the genre, and the concept alone is so strong that it immediately grabbed me. There are just so many possibilities for this series, and I can't wait to see how the show plays out.

The Invisible Man and His Soon-to-Be Wife Is Ripe with the Potential to Become a Shojo Classic

The Pairing Between Akira and Shizuka Sounds Incredibly Sweet

The concept of an iconic monster finding love with a human isn't anything new. There have been countless stories through the years that explore the concept, with Guillermo del Toro's take on the subject, The Shape of Water, even garnering the Academy Award for Best Picture of 2017. Universal Pictures also explored a similar idea back in the 1930s with The Bride of Frankenstein as the monster discovers a blind man and becomes friends with him. It's an interesting idea, and I have a feeling that this anime will continue this idea with some interesting new spins.

For starters, Akira and Shizuka seem to make an adorable pair based on teaser images alone. The look of ion on Shizuka's face as the Invisible Man caresses her is incredibly sweet. Plus, given how dapper and gentlemanly Akira is described, this is a story that is bound to have enough romance to make anyone swoon. As long as the chemistry for this series is well-written, this anime is bound to be a home run because when it comes to romance, the ion between the two leads is key.

2024's Major Shojo Series Proves Unlikely Romances Are a Guaranteed Hit if Handled Well

The Invisible Man and His Soon-to-Be Wife Could Be the Next Sign of Affection

Romantic comedies are incredibly common in the world of anime, especially when it comes to shojo. However, despite there being a large amount, this doesn't stop Invisible Man from having the potential to be a smash hit with fans. In fact, one of the biggest anime of 2024 was A Sign of Affection. This series also focuses on a romantic pairing that might not have been possible. However, Itsumoi's ion for language and desire to learn more about Yuki's world as a deaf person made them a sweet pair, making the series itself one of Crunchyroll's biggest shojo series.

This intrigue in unlikely romances could spread to The Invisible Man and His Soon-to-Be Wife. However, what's interesting is how different the two shows' couples are from each other besides sharing a similar story premise. Yuki and Itsuomi from A Sign of Affection are built up as a couple that probably wouldn't work given Itsuomi's love for languages. On the other hand, Akira and Shizuka seem made for each other as Shizuka can easily look past Akira being invisible to see the kind man he is underneath.

The Invisible Man and His Soon-to-Be Wife Could Usher in a New Wave of Supernatural Romance

The exciting thing about The Invisible Man and His Soon-to-Be Wife potentially brings a new era of popularity for supernatural romances. The subgenre infamously got a bad reputation back in the late 2000s when the Twilight Saga became popular despite its hollow characters and bland storytelling. However, if this anime ends up being a success, it could show the world just how good stories like this can be when well handled. The premise is good and the characters have a ton of potential. It all comes down to the execution.

There's currently no official release date set for The Invisible Man and His Soon-to-Be Wife aside from a general 2025 release window. However, I'm willing to wait as long as it takes to see this series finally hit the small screen. The premise is absolutely golden and could revitalize an entire subgenre while having lovable characters and an entertaining story to boot. This adaptation is easily my most anticipated anime of 2025, and I'm eager to see if it will become the next big shojo series.

Look for The Invisible Man and His Soon-to-Be Wife when it releases in 2025!
