The backstory of but a Kraven clone, who the original considered worthy of becoming the "Last Son of Kraven the Hunter." Now, the new Kraven has proven what makes him so worthy.
The Amazing Spider-Man #35 features Kraven the Hunter literally rising from the grave once more, after a Goblinized Spider-Man. Yet, despite getting pummeled to nearly to death, Kraven keeps smiling, having gained one critical advantage over his predecessor.
The New Clone Kraven Is No Longer Plagued By "The Voice"
In Amazing Spider-Man #35, Peter asks Kraven why he seems so elated after getting beaten up. Kraven begins to describe a voice in his head. A voice that not only followed him into the grave, but haunted him well before that. He says his father experienced the same voice in his head, and it is what compelled him to put a shotgun in his mouth. Upon leaving the grave, Kraven's son no longer hears it. "It's gone, Spider," he says, laughing with downright glee. "I faced the darkness and I did not pull the trigger. I know this now ... however I die, it will not be my hand."
This puts the past few issues featuring Kraven – specifically The Amazing Spider-Man #33 where Spidey hunts Kraven – into a new perspective. There are multiple s and pages in which it appears as if Kraven's inner monologue is composed of conflicting thought bubbles, as if he was arguing with himself. As it turns out, he was; or rather, he was arguing with the Voice in his head. It even helps recontextualize the original Kraven's motivations to end his life (among his other actions) at the conclusion of Kraven's Last Hunt, revealing he was motivated largely by a dark Voice in his head.
The New Kraven Just Became More Dangerous Than Ever Before
Unlike his father, the new Kraven does not succumb to the Voice; instead, he manages to escape it, albeit with the help of an unhinged, Goblinized Peter Parker. Now that Kraven has evaded this elusive Voice, he has the potential to be even more dangerous than before, and more critically, even more dangerous than his father. He no longer has to worry about a voice in the back of his mind, forcing him to doubt his own abilities, convincing him to do terrible things to himself. With no voice holding him back, this latest incarnation of Kraven the Hunter could be the most unstoppable yet.
