Corenswet is Superman: Legacy's new Clark Kent actor. After being cast, past comments by the star about Superman have resurfaced.

Speaking with Gunn's Superman: Legacy. As fans have noted, Corenswet shares a stark resemblance to Cavill, which the actor addressed in the interview, saying, “It came to my attention before the internet got a hold of me." Talking about Cavill's take on Superman, Corenswet said he liked the DCEU's "dark and gritty" Man of Steel but wanted the next Superman to be "very bright and optimistic.” Check out the full quote below:

“It came to my attention before the internet got a hold of me, but my pie-in-the-sky ambition is definitely to play Superman. I would love to see somebody do an upbeat, throwback [take on Superman]. I love the Henry Cavill dark and gritty take, but I would love to see the next one be very bright and optimistic.”

How David Corenswet's Superman Will Differ To Henry Cavill's

The reason why Gunn decided to cast a new actor as Superman rather than move over Cavill's version of the character to the new DC Universe was due to Superman: Legacy's focus on a younger Clark Kent. At 40, Cavill is simply too old to bring Gunn's vision for the character to life, while the 29-year-old Corenswet sits at the appropriate age range to be the face of the new DC Universe.

Throughout his time in the DCEU, Cavill's Superman barely resembled the boy scout attitude that Clark Kent is known for in the comics. Zack Snyder's DC movies were darker than the source material, with Cavill playing a tortured version of Superman in a gritty take on the usually colorful character. That version of Superman, and the DCEU as a whole, was pretty divisive, which is what led to Gunn becoming DC's new creative chief in hopes of bringing the franchise closer to the comics and thus winning back the audience.

To do that, Superman: Legacy will open the DC Universe by bringing Clark Kent back to basics. Gunn has confirmed several Superman: Legacy details, with Corenswet's Superman set to be different from Cavill's. Corenswet's younger Superman will be going through the discovery of what it means to be a hero, as well as dealing with the difference between his Kryptonian heritage and his human upbringing. The new Superman will bring the character to his hopeful self, with Gunn wanting to focus on the character's humanity, which was missing in Cavill's, whose Superman was treated as a god among men. Based on this, Corenswet will get his wish in Superman: Legacy.
