A new comedy series from Netflix has gotten an update on its possible season 2 renewal from one of its stars. Netflix is one of the first and most well-known platforms of the streaming era. While it also features a wide library of licensed titles, it has become known for distributing its own original movies and television series, with some of their most-watched titles including the action-comedy Red Notice, the Addams Family reimagining Wednesday, and the 1980s-set sci-fi fantasy Stranger Things.
Many of the most popular Netflix shows are hourlong dramas, but sitcoms have also found a place on the platform, achieving both critical and commercial success. One of their most notable entries in the genre is Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, which was created by 30 Rock's Tina Fey and Robert Carlock. Netflix was also instrumental in the popularization of the CBC sitcom Schitt's Creek in addition to being behind original sitcoms such as the Norman Lear reboot One Day at a Time, the legacy sequel series Fuller House, and a brand new series that has a perfect Rotten Tomatoes score.
North Of North Season 2 Has Gotten An Update
The Netflix Show Debuted In January
The possible North of North season 2 has gotten a hopeful update. The Canadian sitcom, which debuted on Netflix on January 7 and has a perfect Rotten Tomatoes score of 100% at the time of writing, follows Siaja (Anna Lambe), an Inuk woman who navigates being a newly single mother in a small town in the Arctic. The North of North cast also includes Mary Lynn Rajskub, Tanya Tagaq, Keira Cooper, Maika Harper, Braeden Clarke, Kelly William, Zorga Qaunaq, and Jay Ryan.
North of North was created by Stacey Aglok MacDonald and Alethea Arnaquq-Baril.
ScreenRant's Tatiana Hullender had the opportunity to sit down for an interview with Anna Lambe while the star was promoting North of North. When discussing the possibility of season 2, Lambe itted that she has not heard any updates. However, she added that "there's always hope." She added her own personal hopes, saying that "I want to know what happens next" and expressing a wish for the characters in the show to be happy. She also expressed her gratitude for the viewers who have "fallen in love with all of these characters." Read her full comment below:
I haven't heard anything, but there's always hope. You have your hopes and dreams, and what you want and daydream about for what comes next for these characters. You go in filming the first season, and there's always that feeling of like, "But now I need to know what happens next, and I want my character to be happy. I want these characters to be happy, so what does that look like?" I'm so happy that people have really resonated with the first season and have fallen in love with all of these characters. So did we in playing them, and who knows what happens next?
What This Means For North Of North Season 2
Its Status Is Unknown
Ultimately, it seems that Netflix may be giving North of North season 1 more time to find its audience before making a final decision on either cancelling or renewing the series. The show's viewership has not been especially strong, as it did not debut on the streamer's weekly chart of the Top 10 most-watched English-language series, either globally or in Canada. However, it may not need to be a smash streaming hit in order for the viewership to be high enough to justify what is probably a relatively low budget.
